My first business lunch experience

Recommended Posts

So, although I was nervous about it, I went for my first business lunch with a senior executive from our head office in Toronto. Reservations were at a swanky restaurant on the beach in Vancouver. I agonized over what I would eat and what I would wear...

I checked the restaurant's website and decided that the BC grilled salmon and greens w/b best and that I just wouldn't eat what looked dubious. I haven't had a fill yet but have restriction so need to be very careful about what I eat and how I chew.

As well, I found an outfit that I hadn't worn since 2004 and that fit me albeit the pants were a bit loose (that felt good!).

So I got to the restaurant and ordered a Water with lemon while I waited. When I rose to greet him he gave me a hug and said "wow, you look fantastic, what have you been doing?" I couldn't have been happier.

When the food came, I ate very slowly, took small bites, and chewed well. The salmon melted in my mouth...good choice...can't go wrong with fresh BC salmon. Although I couldn't finish the meal, it wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. I simply left what I couldn't eat.

I must say that this was a great NSV!!! I managed to get through my first business lunch without any mishaps and had a great time.

Good for you! I remember how agonizing that was for me too. It sounds like you made a great choice. That was also what I had for my 1st business lunch (which fell on my 1st day on solids!).

As a soon to be bander, I've been following the August banders posts frequently, to help me anticipate what I might expect. What a fabulous business lunch, and a great NSV to boot. Congrats!!

Wow, it has almost been a full month for some of us and now it is time to venture out into the real world of food again. Great to hear how well your lunch went. It is nice to see how people are handling these real world situations.

It is great that you like fish - I can't stomach it. I am hoping my taste will change with the surgery, I've heard that does happen.

Great NSV! Keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone! Yes, salmon and tuna have been my mainstays the past few days...I'm fortunate because I LOVE seafood and I live on the West Coast. My concern is getting enough Protein and having Protein first - salmon and tuna are packed with it so it makes my decision quite easy.

Congrats on being banded Roheryn...how do you feel?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
