I think my band may have slipped. Im scared!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Just 3 days ago, I went on a sailboat for 12 hours. during the sail, I felt a tightness in my throat whenever I tried to drink Water or eat anything and then my stomach would upset. I've been feeling the same since, but a little bit better I guess. The thing is though, I'm able to get some things down and not others. Like yesterday, I had an entire, big power bar and a 36 oz. smoothie. That was fine, but this morning, I couldn't drink down my coffee. I don't get it. Has anybody else experienced anything like this from being on a sailboat? Please tell me this will go away in time. Help! Thanks.

Depending on the time of day, your body's Water fluxuates differently. Most people find they are a lot tighter in the morning. i'm sure the atmospheric pressure effects it too. You'll be ok though. If you keep having problems, call your doctor.

Time will tell. I had a slip. I didn't know at first that's what it was. Have you had acid reflux. That's one of the big signs of a slip. You can drink fluids, right? I think you said you have trouble with coffee. If you can't drink Water, thats an emergency, otherwise give it a few days. I f it's not better after 4 or 5 days, you may have a slip. I had my band unfilled & have just had a refill after 4 months. Now I know what to look for.

I sail. I have a band. I don't have any problems. Sounds like you got seasick and that irritated your pouch.

You should talk to your Dr. or someone in the band field.

My sister-in-law had her band slip then erode and she was still eating normal.

Everyone is different.

Good luck on your journey.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm hanging in there! So, you're saying that taking some of the fill out and waiting to refill fixed the slip?

In my slip I was having real trouble getting food down all the sudden. I was never sure why, maybe something stuck. When I would eat something I would often throw up. I think that's what caused the real slip. From what I understand, some of the lower part of the stomach came up into the band leaving almost no room for anything to go through. The floroscope show the band to have kind of slipped sideways. When it was unfilled the lower stomach slipped back down and the band went straighter. We'll see what happens with the refill.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
