Time off work for doctors appointments

Recommended Posts

Hi what do you guys think about this. I am starting my new job in less than 2 weeks. I am going to be a self pay for my surgery so as soon as I get my first check I can start the process.

My question is how bad would it be to ask be let go 45 min early for a doc appointment about 2 months after I start? It will be the one appointment that I need to get off early for...all the others I can go after work. I want to get the ball going as soon as my financing goes through but I'm worried about making a bad impression at work...Starting Jan 9 I will have thursday-saturday off but I want to start this process now so by then I can have my surgery on a thursday and hopefully be back at work on sunday! I sit all day at work so I don't think 4 days will be a problem....what does everyone think??

well i think the key is to let them know as soon as possible and you don't have to tell them what the appt is for. For all they know it's for something like dialysis... unless you already told them what it's for but either way they should be understanding. Tell them u will bring a doctor's note.

People go to the doctor all the time, new employees and old employees. You should have no problem getting time off work for a dr. appt. Since your appt. will be in 2 months, I would wait at least 1 month prior to the appt to tell them. (It's not like you are asking for a vacation!) Don't worry, it will be fine! Good luck to you!

If you are going to the doctor that is one thing and they shouldn't have a problem with it. In fact, I think it would be illegal for them to keep you from doing so.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
