Can anyone give a good definition of "slime"?

Recommended Posts

Ive been banded for 1 mo. now, and have thrown up perfectly innocent things, such as 1/2 of a pork chop. Ive kept down more complex things like gyros & smoked beef sticks. there doesnt seem to be any real logic as to what I can eat. When people on the blog talk about being "slimed" (throwing up) no one mentions what slime is (stomach mucus?) what causes it and how to avoid it, if possible. Ill be getting my 1st fill Thursday and wonder if the slime will get worse.:w00t:

Siren , First of all I was banded on Aug 1, 2008 and I just got off soft and mushy food... I am just starting solid foods. I can have moist chicken no breasts unless it is in a sauce.. By the 24th of next month the doctor wants me on all solid foods.. He said the last things I would try would be meat.. Now he wants me on soft meats and chew well. Sea food is good.. So it might be that you are not quite ready for some things... Today I had my first PB. Not fun at all. It started with slime... Slime is a really heavy saliva. Your body produces it to pass the food stuck... This is a really scary thing and very painful. My problem was I did not pay attention to what I was doing and didn't chew my chicken well enough.. Take your time and chew chew chew.....

Slime is like a "spit snake". It's thicker than regular spit and you could practically pull it out of your throat. Ewwwwwwwww. It's like egg white coming out of your throat. I guess this is the "super spit" that your body produces to help get something through that is stuck or when you irritate your pouch.

Good luck. Hopefully you'll never have a visit from the "spit snake"!

Siren, I have been lurking around this board since just before my banding on September 11. Tonight I was looking for someone with a similar experience to mine. Looks like you are it!

I have been throwing up pretty much daily. :tt2: Some foods that I think will be easy to eat come right back up and sometimes I am surprised by what I can keep down. In the end, I figured it was how I was eating and not what.

I guess I'll have to eat smaller bites and not go for the food with quite so much gusto. Lots of reprogramming to do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
