swollen pouch/possible slip recovery?

Recommended Posts

:confused:How many of you have had a swollen pouch/possible slip and recovered from it without another surgery? I had my band totally unfilled last Friday due to reflux/swelling. I have been on a total liquid diet since then. What are the chances I will recover from this? I have had NO reflux since being unfilled and absolutely no problems getting any liquids down...not even thick ones.

No one responded to your post and I have the exact same question/problem. I was told that my pouch was swollen and I'm freaking out right now! I am also on liquids for 2 weeks and this is only day 3 of 15 and I'm starving (and also really scared)! What was your outcome?

Make that 3 people with same problem. My Dr however did not suggest I go to liquids. He just said eat sensible and chew well. Unfilled me today, wants me to get upper GI on Monday and come back on Tuesday, 7 days after unfill. I guess he thinks if it does not correct itself in a week then it will not self correct.

I've had a pouch dilation which I think is the same thing you are refering too.

Keep in mind I'm a very special case having problems from day one.

My doc took what was in my band out.05 cc and I did ok for about 2 weeks then my problems came back.

From what I have heard if you caught your pouch dialation early and had a complete unfill more then likely everything will be ok.

You also need to take your fills slower then usual so it doesn't happen again.

A pouch dialation is because of OVER EATING please stick to your doctor's rules on how much you are allowed to eat at one sitting. This is so very very important.

I had horrible reflux last week and vomitting, had 6 out of the 8 ccs removed from my band on Thursday. Have been fine since, feel much better. I am wondering about this also. I won't get to have xray or talk to a doctor until Saturday.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
