Hey all...so i have heard a lot of things to get and not to get when on the pre-op diet, and post op. Please take your time and add to this post on what things need to be purchsed. So far:

1. Gas-x disolvable strips

2. easy slip on clothing

3. (female obviously) wireless bra

4. Clear liquids

5. (my dr. said) Carnation instant Breakfast...different flavors...

and what else???

going on a pre op diet, does that include Jello and all of those? I was told to only have 3 carnation instant breakfasts and 1 fruit!! That is it!! But all of those count as a free drink right?

liquid Tylenol, and/or liquid Motrin (try kids') - check with your doc on which they recommend. Also, before you buy 17 boxes of Gas-X strips, remember that they only work on gas inside your digestive system, and the gas that gets pumped into you for surgery is around your digestive organs, not in them. I'd still buy them, but not more than a box.

Also, I wish I'd had a recliner. I slept the first couple nights with my legs propped up on two large pillows, so I was almost in a sitting position but laying down. Laying flat was very uncomfortable, and laying on my side was completely impossible. If I make it to goal and somehow manage to scrounge up the money for a Tummy Tuck, I will also include a few hundred dollars for a cheap La-Z-Boy for that post-op.

There's not much else you need, really. Just soft, elastic-waisted pants and plenty of liquids, maybe a good book, and your laptop for browsing the before and after photos on this site when you get to the what-the-heck-have-I-done-to-myself phase.

i know i am going to have to talk to dr about this, but is it an absolute no no to have excedrine migrain pills? I get headaches (he knows that part) and nothing seems to touch them except excedrine Migraine meds. I feel like i OD on tylonal...4 doesn't touch my headaches

This isn't food or meds related, but I went to a bookstore and got a pretty blank book. In it I've put "before" pictures of me, the tapes from my doc's scale showing my weight, BMR, BMI, Fat mass etc, the band from my 1st hospitalizaion where I didn't get the band, and my measurements. I've also written some worries, hopes, thoughts, you know, journaled!

This is really huge for me and that book is like an anchor or a center. As I fill it up I hope I'll shrink.....Just a thought!

Hi- My daughter and I finally have our surgery dates. Sept. 25 for her and Sept. 30 for me. My husband is waiting for his date. We are very excited and nervous as expected. Still waiting to hear if our insurance will cover it though. Hopefully we will find out this week or next. Have all of you had to do the waiting game as well. We have already met with the dietician, psychologist, Dr. and have appointments for an EKG, blood work and to meet with the surgery nurse. All this and we still don't know about insurance. I would love to have my daughter connect with someone close to her age that has had or is going to have the surgery. She is 18 years old.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
