Changing my goal

Recommended Posts

Well, I've decided to change my target goal weight. I am 5' 7" tall, and currently weigh about 165, which puts my BMI at 25.8, almost in the normal range. I originally had my goal as 135, which is about what I weighed at age 20. Now I think I'm going to be happy at 150. That will put my BMI at 23.5, which is smack dab in the middle of the "normal" range. I'm wearing size 10 or 12 slacks now, and I figure 15 more pounds will put me in the 6 to 8 size. Plus, I intend to have a Tummy Tuck early next year so that my jelly belly doesn't jiggle when I brush my teeth in the morning.(LOL!) That should just about do it, I think.

I'm wondering what you all think about what I'm thinking? How much is too much, and how much is too little?

Sounds like a beautiful goal. And you know what you want to look like and how you want to feel better than anyone. I'm so happy for you!!!! Have you posted before and afters to the 6 month pics post yet? I'd love to see.

How about a sliding goal? When you reach the laudable goal of 150 (oh will I ever see the day, Tapshoes sobs???), live with it for a while and then make a decision. Perhaps you will be absolutely dellighted and comfortable at 150, or you may say, nope, another 10 pounds, or 15, or whatever.

I would suggest 150 as the goal, and then see.

How's that for a non-answer?:smile2:

I think it is kind of hard to set a goal when we start because we really don't know how we'll look or feel at that size. I've set my goal at 160 and I may decide I don't want to go that low, or I want to go even lower. I just don't know. The last time I weighed 160 I was in 8th or 9th grade. I'm almost 30 now and I've had two kids--my body is far different so I really don't know. Plus, I'd like to have more muscle tone and definition than I had on the way up so that definitely changes how I look. My one condition is that I MUST go under 200. I won't be happy if I'm over that.

I think it is where you will be comfortable that makes you at goal. You are so close, way to go!!!

No, I haven't, but I sure need to. I'm always suprised at how I look in pictures. Oddly enough, I always think I look bigger in pictures than I do in the mirror. They say the camera adds 10 pounds, but I have to ask, "How many cameras were ON me???" LOL!

I'll try to get some pics this weekend and get them posted so that you guys can be the judge. Sometimes I think we're too critical of ourselves.

You look in the mirror? I haven't looked at myself in the mirror (other than my face) in a LONG time. Not even when trying on clothes - if they fit, then I wore them - no looking in the mirror for me. There is no full-length mirror in my house, there is not one on my dresser or other places. I am a master at mirror avoidance. And as for pictures - I have made Herculean efforts over my life to avoid cameras, and have been known to rip a camera from someones hands, tear the film out (which dates me, I know!), and I have thrown someone's camera overboard. Nowadays, of course, I can't control it - cameras are everywhere, but as long as I don't see the pics, it's ok.

I was and still sort of am that way too. Hate cameras. But I hate them less now that they can show me that I really am losing weight. Helps me get a better feeling of what I really look like. I know....that's good and bad. LOL

Ready - LOL, you remind me of my niece and you look wonderful, no wonder you love the camera!

Tapshoes - You're killing me. ROFLMAO  I used to do that too! I'm just now starting to like, not only the camera, but how about when you see someone you haven't seen in forever? I was a very thin teen/young adult and then got fat after having kids. I'd threaten DH with his life if he flagged down an old friend in a store. I've even been known to run to another isle and hide because I was so ashamed. Now I'm always holding my head up and look forward to running into an old friend or meeting one of his coworkers, etc.

kjeter - You look amazing. Geeze, I feel old now.

I took new pics this morning, but forgot to bring the cord to copy them from the camera to computer. Will post on Monday. (I have dialup at home. :wink2:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
