Hello everyone. I am new to this site and wanted to say hello.

I am currently doing research on the lap band procedure as I am very interested in getting it done. All my life I have been overweight and I am just sick and tired of it. So any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...

Thanks.. Steph

Hi Steph,

Good luck in your research. This is a great forum for getting all your questions answered.

I recently purchased the book titled, "Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band " and found it extremely helpful in honestly informing me about the lap band. The book can be ordered online from Borders and I highly recommend it.

Tom

Steph,

My advice, being over weight my whole life as well, only have this surgery if you are ready to change your life. This surgery, although not as drastic as the bypass, is a complete change in the things you eat and the way you think about food. I myself have struggled with diets since I was 10 years old. I did the slim fast, adkins, Vitamins B12 shots and many other diets. I have never felt as great as I do with this band. I am almost 11 months post op and I could not be happier with the results. BUT Lap band is not something that you can have and jsut lose the weight. The band is a tool; you only get what you put into it. My boss, who drives me nuts, had the bypass and she sits at her desk and eats candy and junk food all day long. If i ever poisoned my body with that, I would gain weight. So just keep in mind, if you are a goal oriented person and are willing to put in the work, than lap band is everything you are looking for. I am only 18, so i owe my life to this band. The way I feel about myself is amazing. This is something I never thought would ever happen to me.

So if you are willing, have the surgery.

Good luck with your further research and I hope this provided a little more insight for you. Let me know if you have anymore questions :]

I also struggled with weight most of my life, i had the surgery on the 30th of July and am down 20 pounds, right now i am losing about 3 pounds a week but that is 3 pounds lost instead of gained and i feel WONDERFUL, remember it is a tool and not a quick fix and you have to be willing and ready,I was more then ready and am so happy I have elected to do the band and it is working well!! Good luck!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
