Anyone else feel the same way?

Recommended Posts

I went to my pre-op appt last week, got started on my 2 week diet late, and I'm just feeling like I haven't seen the "sign" to get the surgery done. I know I'm terrified of getting this done (the whole dying on the table thing), and I've voiced that with my husband... but I can't tell if I'm just nervous since it's on the 27th and it's getting really close, or if I'm wanting to back out. Didn't know if anyone else went through the same feelings as well.

Melissa

I think everyone feels some nervousness as they approach their date for surgery. I for one get nervous from time to time as I think about it b/c this will be my first surgery. However, I keep thinking about all the positive results people write about on this forum and it reminds me that I'm making a good choice.

Melissa~

You will put yourself at a higher risk of dying if you don't have the surgery! The surgery is worth it. I can't believe how different I already feel and it has only been 2 1/2 weeks.

You should do this for yourself and your family! You have a ton of support here. Go for it!

It is nerve wracking...i was not as nervous as i was when i had my gallbladder out...this seemed like old hat...i've had like 3 surgeries before this one...

but the idea of dying and having the fireman have to break the house open to get me out with a crane...that to me is more fearful...i peaked at 315lbs...

I lost 50 on my own, but knew i needed help and i choose the band after looking into it for 2 years

And let me say that the doctors that are preforming this surgery are some of the highest skilled out there in the field. my doctor only does lapbands on mondays and when my day was there were 3 of us, i was up walking 20 mins after being rolled into my room.

Fear is healthy but don't fear this is it is a wonderful tool for us.

So chin up!!! :sneaky:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
