Hello Everybody! I'm New Here!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am a newbie. I am a patient of Dr. Alan Geiss in Syosset. I live on Long Island, NY. I had my initial consult with the doctor on August 1, and I am almost finished with my pretesting. I am hoping to get my surgery date as soon as possible. I am grateful that this forum exists and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I would also appreciate whatever support you would be kind enough to provide.

Thanks very much! :)

Hi there and welcome! It's so nice to see a fellow Dr. Geiss patient. I live here on LI too. You will be so happy with him....he is great and so is his whole team. Whenever you call, they are always there to help and it's obvious that they care. I was banded July 2 and I'm so happy with the results. This forum had been a tremendous help with my journey and I'm sure you'll come to find that as well. If you have any questions about Dr. Geiss, the surgery, or anything please feel free to ask....I'll be happy to help if I can. Good luck to you, and I'm telling you, you're in good hands with Dr. Geiss!

thank you so much for responding so soon. My name is Lisa also. Tho I've only met him once, he seems great. I was very impressed. I also thought his staff was great. I'm glad to hear you are doing well. How long did it take for your insurance to approve? I have empire. do you know anything about that?

Another one of Dr. Geiss' here too! I'm pleased as punch with his staff. He came highly recommended to me, and although I haven't had my surgery yet I am already singing praises about his office.

One thing the staff told me is that you will hear from your insurance company before they do.

I don't know how long it took for them to approve because I don't know when they submitted it to my insurance. My approval took a while though bc I had to schedule my surgery 6 weeks out from when they received all of the clearances (due to my schedule) and they told me that they don't submit to insurance until it gets closer to the date (in my case probably 30 days or less).

I had the WORST time waiting but was ECSTATIC when I received my approval in the mail.

I hope everything turns out well for you. Keep us updated!

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your well wishes. I wasn't worried about my insurance approval because a co-worker had the band by Dr. Geiss (she recommended him to me) and we have the same insurance through work so I knew I would be approved. Had my initial consult with Dr. Geiss and just kept moving forward from there with all my tests and appointments and before I knew it, I got the call and approval letter and my date was then set. Don't worry, keep scheduling all you appointments and before you know it, you'll have your date. Keep me posted and ask any questions.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
