New to the Neighborhood

Hi all-

I am Carrie a 31y/o mom of 2 beautiful kids ages 4 and 2. I have struggled with my weight, as most have, for most of my life. At my heaviest, in January of this year, I weighed 286. My pre-op weight was 256. I am new to the post op lap band journey. I had my surgery 7/31/2008. I guess I am in the baby stages right now and will have my first fill 9/8/2008. I am looking forward to it, but also a little nervous. Mostly though I am looking forward to the rest of my life and the prospect of releasing a 100+ pound burden that I have been carrying around for about 15 years. I can't wait to read the success stories of others and hopefully meet a few mentors and friends.:)

Good luck to you honey!! I was banded on June 2. I'm just a little further out than you. This is a great place for information. I'm still new on here too. I too have dieted almost my entire life, been up and down, in control, out of control, and before i got the band, i was more out of control than ever. I have a long way to go, but it has helped me so much so far and i already feel so much better. We are all in this together! We are on our journey of getting healthy. I'm ready for the next part of my life and hopefully being able to have children. I wish i had done this sooner. It is the best thing i have ever done for myself!

You can message me whenever you want! I wish you the best!

Julie

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
