1/4 cup of food while on mushies - correct?

Recommended Posts

I started mushies this weekend and am wondering if I understand this right. In my rules packet, my doc says only 1/4 cup food at a time. Does this apply to when I'm still on mushies and have no liquid in my band? After my two bites of food, naturally I'm still starving! I'm also wondering how on earth I am to get any variety in my diet other than the two bites of scrambled eggs or whatnot. And I misunderstanding the rules?

Just wanted to update this thread - the dietician says they don't expect me to eat only 1/4 cup of mushies. I can eat until satisfied in this stage (they don't expect weight loss). When I have band restriction, they say I need to follow the 1/4 cup rule. Apparently the materials they gave me are the same they give gastric bypass patients, so it didn't differentiate on when I should eat the limited amount.

Regardless, I'm eating very, VERY little... yet actually I gained a 1/2 pound over the weekend. Fun!

I just started mushies & had orientation about it today and they said not to exceed 4oz at any meal. I guess each dr is different. Good luck!:biggrin2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
