Slow Loss on Pre-op Diet?

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm a little aggrivated today. My DH is really supporting me in this by doing the preop diet with me. We are on day 5. It helps so much to have him starving right along with me :). He also makes my whey Protien shakes, grills and measures the meat, etc.

So, we both weigh ourselves today (I know I probably shouldn't but I just had to) he lost 12 LBS! Me, I lost 3. How is this fair? I swear I'm not cheating. I may have had an extra brussel sprout or two the other day but thats it! Its really frustrating.

Guess this is why Ineedalapband!

That's exactly what's happening to me! I was doing well on the low carb before, but since I started the 10 day Protein Shake diet I've stalled. Doc said I would probably lose 10 pounds in those 10 days but I've only lost 3. Boo!

Never ever compare your weight loss to a man's! For whatever reason they seem to drop more quickly then women. I remember going on diets with my dad - he would lose 10 lbs by sleeping and it would take me weeks!

Just keep it up! I know it is tough, but you will get through it! My scale wouldn't budge and then it would start to drop when I had given up all hope.

Ktork, have you lost 28lbs on your preoop diet! If so, I'm going to cry.

Just kidding!

Off to have a SF Jello to keep the hunger pains at bay.

Thanks for the support you guys.

I have the same problem. My surgery is tomorrow, I've been doing extra low carb, extra low fat for my pre-op diet (surgeon required) for almost 2 weeks and didn't drop a pound. That's about 700-1100 calories (depends how much Protein I get).

However, I did lose over 60 lbs in about 6 months doing the low fat, low carb diet (insurance approval required the 3 month comprehensive diet), so I guess it's my body's way of saying "whoa!! what you doin?".

Today is only sugar free Clear liquids. Thank goodness, I only have to do that for one day.

Looking forward to reduced hunger pains!!!

I've been trying to appreciate all the Non scale victories I've had and remembering this is a process. It will come off, I'm determined it will.

It will come off for you too!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
