Leak at the port

Recommended Posts

I was banded 3/18. Lost 30 pounds, but that was from my 2 weeks before surgury & my month after. Ya know drinks, mushy etc. Since then, I haven't been loosing weight. Got a 1cc fill, nothing, another 1cc fill nothing. then filled to 5cc's was too much, backed it down to 4.7 then nothing again. I didn't even feel I have the band put in. Turned out that I have a leak at the port. Going back in Sat for surgury.

Has anyone out there gone thru this?

Leak in the port is a easy fix, replace the port and that's it. Finding the leak is most of the problem and most leaks are in the port.

They might keep you awake through the procedure and you'll feel a lot of tugging. Just keep asking for meds!!! It should'nt take more than 15 minutes.

Keep us posted and relax.

Your on the mend.

Hi..I had my second fill on Tues. my doctor pulled out the first fill first and only got out .5 out of a 1.5 fill two weeks ago... she put in another 1.5 on tues. with flouro... I saw a restriction.. but two days later ... nothing... no restriction... I am afraid I have a leak.. how do they know if you have a leak...? how do they test for that?

Oh.. by the way.. good luck on Sat. ... I will be thinking of you...

LivinNY, I just posted this on another tread.

First was your fill conducted under fluoroscopy, that's the only way to see a leak. The two leak checks I've had were with contrast(omniplaque). The contrast is put in the port and you watch under xray/fluoroscopy, following the contrast up the tubing to the band. Some leaks are so small it's very hard to detect. Look for kinks in the tubing, that's where mine was. Most leaks are in the port or tubing
You'll be able to see the contrast leaking out, where as saline you can not see at all under fluoro.

"was your fill conducted under fluoroscopy"
Hi Vera...

Yes my fill was done with fluoroscopy... I was able to see everything... I didn't notice any problem and my Doctor didn't seem to be concerned... I just don't understand how 1cc can disapear and get another 1.5 and not have any kind of restriction... thanks for your reply... I will have to discuss this with my Doc. next time I see her...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
