question....pre-op diet & alcohol

Recommended Posts

I have two weeks till my band is put in. I am on a low carb diet to shrink my liver (my surgeon's standard diet...nothing in particular wrong with my liver) We are already obligated to a cocktail party this weekend. I know I could just drink Water or diet soda, but...LOL

I know that alcohol is empty calories and not ideal for weight loss....but will one or two low carb drinks (say rum & diet coke which is OK for low carb such as Adtkins) affect my liver in any negative way?

I will call and ask my doctor if I have to. Was hoping to get input here though. Just hate to sound like a lush...LOL!

you can drink all the non carb alcohal and diet soda you want, in my oppinion.

I lost 41 of the pounds pre-op in about a month doing low carb is all..

thats less than 20 carbs a day.. (claories dont matter if you truely go low low carb for a time, you WILL lose it.. for the livers sake.. )

Isn't there a new comercial on TV that is advertizing Bacardi and Diet Coke with no carbs? I had a few sips of a margarita the day after my surgery. I was in mexico and I met a banded Dr who said there was nothing wrong with it...granted I didn't drink the whole thing, just a few sips..but it was the best night sleep.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
