MD unfilled my band today!!! Possible erosion?

Recommended Posts

Today I went for a routine visit and mentioned that I felt mike I was having acid reflux and and aching pains in my stomach. He said that was a sign of over filling and then took out the needle and sucked out all the Fluid out of my band. :biggrin: Since he did not put in my band he now wants to do an upper GI in the next 2 weeks and make sure there is no erosion. I switched to this MD when the sugeon who put on my lap band placed it on my esophagus by mistake and then 8 days after my original surgey I had a second surgey to replace the band. My current MD is concerned that since I had to have 2 surgeries that there may have been damage that the overfilled band aggravated??? It has been a year since my surgeries and I have lost 55lbs with the band. I was just getting the restriction I liked since my last fill 3 months ago and now I will have to start over. I'm afraid of over eating now since there is 0 restriction. The MD even said that he could do a RNY if there was erosion and I had to have the band removed. I chose the band for a reason and did not want the RNY surgery. Has anyone had similar problems?? Do you know anyone who has been converted from the lap-band to the RNY? :confused2:

Thank you for any support.

Rxangel= banded 7-18-07 and 7-26-07

Oh my god, you've been through so much! :biggrin: (((hugs)))

Just wanted to say, I've been having those aching feelings in my stomach and having a couple of signs of reflux too. I'm 10 months out and after my last fill, I started having aches/pains in my stomach a lot (under my left breast, up under the ribcage) and a lot of times when I swallow, it feels like there is something in my throat. I've been worried sick about an erosion. I go in Monday for a partial unfill and I'm hoping that I'm just too tight. (6.5cc in a 10cc band) If, after they do a partial unfill, the symptoms go away, I'll leave well enough alone. But if it still aches, I'll have to I guess have tests to check for erosion. :biggrin: The worst part is I have the best restriction I've ever had...I eat the perfect amount of food, hardly ever pb/vomit or get stuck...but I still have these stupid pains/aches in the pit of my stomach.:biggrin:

I really hope neither one of us has an erosion. Please update and let us know what they say and what happens.

It sounds like the same symptoms. My MD has given me Carafate and Aciphex (it's like Prilosec) and they have helped the aching. He said if it was the start of an ulcer this would help heal it. He was just being cautious wanting to do an upper GI. I still have that feeling in my esophagus- he was worried I had stretched out the esophagus because I was over filled. I too had the best restriction ever and I'm so worried I'll over eat now.

Sorry to hear of trouble, hope everything gets better for you. If I ever had to lose my band i would go for the sleeve. I had a hard time deciding which one i even wanted in the first place, but i went for the band. so far so good.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
