Hi everyone,

I go for my consult today! At 3:00!! I am so excited. I am self pay so I am guessing things will go pretty fast from here on. I think.

I am seeing Dr. Jerry Simpson. Anyone else go to him?

I am hoping to meet others in Gilbert or Chandler to talk with. Help me along the way.

Any advice? Oh, how does anyone survive the pre-op diet without cheating?

Hi bigdog

What does that mean, no restriction. I have read that alot on this board.

Are you still on liquids? Loosing weight? How long did you take to feel "better"? After surgery, how long was it before you went to the market or walked around the block?

Do you go to support groups?

How well did you do on you pre-op diet?

No restriction means that you cannot eat as much as you did before. After a week dr. simpson took me of all food restrictions so I am eating whatever I want. and i am eating too much because I am not loosing weight. I have read that the first month is for healing and any weight loss is a bonus. As soon as I got out of surgery I was pretty uncomfortable because of the gas they put in your stomach. I was in the hospital from 9am and got home at 5:30. they will make you walk 10 minutes every hour as soon as you get out of surgery. They actually made me walk from the recovery room to my hospital bed. the next day I had no more stomach pains but the muscle they cut through was very sore. Everytime I would move it would hurt. I played golf the next week with no problems. I have not gone to any support groups but i have gone into rooms like this to talk to people about the lapband. I did great on my pre-op diet. I needed to lose 5 pounds in a week and got it done. i lost another 9 pounds the next week on the Soup diet and then he took me off restriction and gained it all back so I need them to tighten my band a little. there is a better place to go to talk to people www.lapbandforum.com. Lot more people to talk to.

I get banded on the 12th of Aug.

Thanks for the info on healing.

Looks like I don't have to do a liquid diet because my BMI isn't that high. Heard of that?

I am so excited, I can't wait to start.

Congratulations in your surgery date! Once I got my initial appointment I was scheduled within 2 weeks. I didn't have to go on a preop diet before my surgery on July 15th with Dr. Simpson and had my first follow up. Usually doctors seem to put people with a BMI of 40 or over on a preop diet. Mine was around 36.6. So far I've lost around 9-11 pounds in the past couple of weeks. I've been very lucky that right off the bat I felt restricted and had to make sure I got enough calories or my blood sugar would drop too low (I'm also a diabetic). I use a nutritional program to track what I'm eating and exercising. I've already eaten solid foods for the past 5 days and so far have done pretty good. I agree with bigdog011367 about not feeling restricted. I had to really pay attention to my body and follow the eating recommendations (eat small bites slowly with no distractions and pay attention to the first feelings of fullness). I've also found the support from the staff and the online community invaluable. Good luck on your lap band journey.

Thanks for the reponse. I am so excited to get on with my new life.

The 12th seems sooo far away.

Darci in the office said to be there at 6:00, surgery at 9:30 and the have my husband wait around because I'll be out of there that quick.

BigDog says he had a 9:00 and didn't leave till 5:00 that eve. How long was it before you got sent home?

Thanks

When did you get yours done? Did you loose fast? Did you get that pain in your shoulder? Were you able to walk around with ease the next day?

Do you go to the support groups? Are there ones close to us? I am Gilbert, I think I noticed you are Mesa?

What is the biggest change you have had to make? Are you glad you did it? How hard is it to stick to the diet now? Did you tell people?

What foods can you eat or what food is hard for you? How long were you on liquids? See, lots of questions. i wish I could talk on the phone to someone that has done it.

Thanks

]I had mine done on Friday June 13rh. I lost weight before but it has been slow but i need to work on my diet. Only first a couple of days did I have pain in my shoulder. I was required to walk 10 minutes every hour that I was awake so that wasnt a problem.

I am going to support groups up at True REsults in Scottsdale. I have been tring to get people together down here. I am in east mesa.

Make sure I am eating healthier, exercise and eat slowly. I am glad I did but its slower then i thought it would be but I need another fill. I told everyone I think people are tired of hearing it.

I can eat about anything as long as I chew and eat slowly. But I have to get better at that taking smaller bites. I was on Clear Liquids for 48 hours then fuller liquids the rest of the week. Mushies for a 2 weeks i believe. and the suppose to move slowly but kinda rushed into solids.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

I am lucky the girl that lives above me had it done 3 months before me.

Jackie

Hi Judie,

I saw your two boys and husband at the hospital just before I got banded. I was in the main entrance with my son and husband.

How are you feeling? Any restriction? When do you get your first fill?

I get a fill in 2 wks, can't wait. Haven't lost since I got off the liquids. (10 pds)I am very ready to get a fill and start to be a big loser!

The first 24hrs were rough, gas pain. But I am fine now. Back to the gym and back to normal. Might even go swimming this wkend. (think it's been 3 wks?)

Love to hear how it's going for you.

Are you going to any support groups?

S

Hi arizonagirl,

Good to hear from you. Glad you are doing well and have recovered successfully.

I am not so good, emotionally......I feel like I should be still losing weight when I know that this is the healing stage. I am scared that my cravings will get the best of me. I have my first fill on 9/18/08 and CANNOT wait! When is your fill date?

I am totally able to eat almost as much as I did before surgery. I definitely DO NOT eat as much as before, but I know I could......nothing bothers me or gets stuck. I am ALWAYS hungry and have absolutely ZERO restriction.......I guess I am in what everyone calls "Bandster Hell"......UGH! I am trying desperately NOT to gain any more weight, I was down to 272 lbs during liquids - post surgery, I am up 3 lbs now. I am trying NOT to stress too much about it and remember that this is a healing stage, not a weight loss stage. It took ALOT to lose that weight, I DO NOT WANT IT BACK! I am actually experiencing alot of cravings.......chocolate mostly........I normally do not eat chocolate. Never really liked it much, my big thing was breads and cakey type things. Eeeeeek, I hope this doesnt last long. I wonder if i can get in for a fill sooner.......

I have not been to the support groups, it is just too dificult for me to get out there with my husband's schedule. I wish there was one closer to me.....it would be much easier to attend and really benefit from others' experiences.

Keep in touch.

Hugs,

J

Hi,

My fill is the 11th. He wanted to wait a few more wks but I called in the other day and spoke to a nurse and told her I really wanted to come in earlier for a fill.

I also don't feel any restriction. And as you, dropped 10 pds, now up 3. I don't want it back either. Why can't losing weight be like losing your car keys. When it's lost, it's LOST!!

I am in S. Gilbert, where are you? Maybe we can exchange numbers or emails?

S

Oh, I did get chicken breast stuck once. Not the best feeling.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
