when does the pain/soreness END!!!

Recommended Posts

Im so glad you asked. I had my surgery 7/9 and I still feel sore in my stomach all the time. I have been worrying something is wrong, he knicked something, what is wrong with me?? Will it ever go away.

My doctor says its just gas, ya think? Would I know if its real pain or just from gas, it just hurts a little, but never stops.

Count me in on the whiny club. In my pain & suffering those first few days post-op, I was even emailing friends & family saying I wish i had never gone through with it. I felt like I was on my death bed. Now, 18 days post-op, I feel pretty darn good and I love my band!! Hang in there...it gets better every single day!

Hi Diva,

I was just banded on 7/23/08 and you just mentioned everything I been going through perfectly. I still have not been able to lay in my bed yet. I have been sleeping sitting up because I tried to lay on my bed and had the toughest time getting back out. I am with you about the coughing, sneezing, and worst of all laughing. I made the mistake of watching Chris Tucker in a moving and paid the price when he had me laughing out of control. The one thing that has worked great for me has been the walking. Once I start feeling pains I get up and go for a walk and the pains just seem to get better. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Take care Diva

Hahaha, Diva you made me laugh-that's not good!:):crying: I said the same thing to my sister, that she had better stop making me laugh...it is not always the best medicine! I too had my surgery on 7/24. I'm not having too much pain and I can kinda sleep on my side now. But yesterday and today I actually had a bit more shoulder and port soreness than the first few days post-op. I think that is due to my lack of walking the last 2 days for sure because the 1st few days I slowly walked quite a bit (site seeing in Mexico-no car), but since being home I took it easy and stayed in. Tomorrow I will be out for a walk. Have you lost any weight since the surgery?? I've only lost 1LB, and it is very frustrating!!! I've only been on Clear Liquids. I thought that would be the silver lining in the clear liquid phase, but no! I'm hoping that it is just bloating and Water retention from surgery.:) Speedy recovery and weight loss!

Ok I'm doing better...I'm almost ready to leave the club :) But shoulder pain daily! As for losing any weight... Not any since Saturday... I've read a hundred threads that I shouldn't be concerned with loss and I should focus on healing...but I know my body and I'm basically eating NOTHING compared to what I use to eat... So I was expecting a little something, aha! Then I looked at the sodium content of the chicken broth I've been adding to everything!! Holy crap! Ok I've been adding broth to my condensed cream Soups instead of Water when I blend them and I add extra broth to make them super watery....yeah I should probably be more concerned with my blood pressure and not the scale! :) I've never seen sodium number like that! One can of Soup 1600mg 1 cup of broth 960mg. So my diet is basically water and salt :crying: Ok maybe sodium is the problem, maybe there's no problem at all... I'm trying ( VERY VERY HARD) to not concern myself with numbers on the scale, yet, and ignore post from people who are 11 days post op and think thier weight loss has stopped and are upset cause they lost 9 lBS of IV fluids week one and 2 lBS week two and think the bands broke .... I'm like it's my body adjusting I'm just going to keep doing the right things go for my walks till I can get back in the gym, eat what I'm supposed to, and keep up with fills, I have 3 fill appt scheduled already :tt2: im trying to stay positive, so good luck to all, hopefully we'll all be feeling great soon and the next generation of whiny babies will start up mid august LOL LOL

I actually feel like this surgery has been pretty easy. Let me preface with the fact that I had a breast reduction 6 yrs ago that was the worst thing I've ever experienced. If you think that getting up and down now, with your belly hurting is bad, try it with 200+ stitches across your chest wall! You use your chest muscles MUCH more when moving around and getting up. It was hot, searing pain across my chest every time I moved.

So, this is easy! I was banded 2 days ago, and this morning, a little of the muscle soreness is gone, and now really only incision pain remains. I can SO deal with that. I just hold my belly still when I get up and down with a little pressure, no problem. So far, I don't think I've had the gas pain from the laproscopy, maybe I just am not recognizing it if it's there...

I have a little tightness, and I think I'm getting dehydrated, because I woke up like 10 times last night with my mouth so dry, I couldn't stand to close it. But, I had a glass of Water by the bed, and took a sip, then went right back to sleep.

I'm sitting in a oversized chair with one of those big wedge pillows with the armests, using an ottoman to prop my feet. I'm very comfortable.

I am SO happy to not be hungry!!!!!! Still only clear liquids and no hunger pangs!!

It takes a couple weeks to get back to your normal self. If anything you may have over did it the first day - 5 - 10 minutes walking every hour?? no way. I was up and walking 2 hours after surgery but no where near that amount. I did have to sleep in a recliner for about 2 weeks, laying down was too painful even with a pain pump and pain pills.< /p>

Did you get pain pills?are you taking them?

Are you on a pain pump? I was, it was great, but kinda got in the way.

I had seepage from one of my small incisions on day 6. I called and the PA said not to worry about it. Call your doctor's office. They need to know and may want to see you.

I had to respond because i to have had a breast reduction(4 mo. ago) & A tummy tuck(2 yrs ago) and my port area was bothering me more then eather of them, other then the drain tubes which really bite. It just goes to show you everyone responds differently to each surgery. feeling much better now, but i've been hungery since the pre op. Can't wait for mushies Good luck to you.

Thanks, crzytchr, for your reply. I called surgeon's office and the nurse did want to see me right away (I was running a low-grade fever). It wound up being my On-Q catheter! My body couldn't absorb all of the medicine it was giving to me so had no choice but to push it right back out of the port incision. So she removed it and no more dripping fluids.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
