Can I get an Amen?

I am so tired of people not understanding what PCOS does to us. There is a thread in the General forum where the poster said she has PCOS and therefore has difficulty loosing weight and keeping it off. Anyways, her reason for posting was that she is having doubts about the surgery for other reasons such as financial, etc. I about flipped when I read the response from a poster who said (I did the boldface font):

"..... As a side issue, you may want to get another opinion on the idea that your weight loss is significantly effected by your polycystic ovarian syndrome, (if I understood your comment correctly). In my opinion, while it may be peripherally related in terms of hormonal- and thus Water retention, it is not something that has a significant impact on your ability to lose wt, and keep it off. (are you on metformin?)......."

And then when I noticed that it was a man who posted it, I about fllipped. He suggested getting another opinion on the idea that our weight loss is signficantly effected by PCOS? It's not an opinion or an idea. It is a fact.

This was the calmest response I could muster:

"Please, Brian, with all due respect, there is no way someone who does not have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome should make statements that imply that water retention is the cause of the inability of those of us that suffer from PCOS to loose weight and keep it off. If only it were as simple as water retention. Peruse the PCOS bandster forum and you'll see stories of what PCOS really does to us. It most definately has a signficant impact on our ability to loose weight and keep it off and water retention is most likely the least of our concerns."

Anybody else fed up with with people having these misconceptions about PCOS?

In general men need to refrain from commenting on female conditions that they will never have or could ever relate to. I can't believe he would even WANT to chime in on such a thread. What a freaking moron?!

I had someone just the other day tell me that I wouldn't need to have the band if I would just watch what I ate and exercised more. I went off on them...filling them in on my PCOS problems. That shut them up rather quickly. I wish that people wouldn't assume that people with weight issues do nothing but eat... Most days I feel like I could eat nothing for days and still gain weight. Finding this site is really giving me hope that I can finally fix myself and live a better life. Thanks to everyone that shares their storied here. I finally know I am note alone in all of this...

PCOS Is still a very widely unrecognized condition in the medical field . With Male docs in particular. I had a male doc tell me once " Who told you you had PCOS " I said "MY OB WHY " he Laughed and rolled his eyes " I looked at him and said " WHO TOLD YOU I was going to pay you " I Laughed rolled my eyes and got up and walked out .

Its A LOT better now than it was 10 yrs ago . But its still a "iffy" condition that docs do not recognize.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
