How are you consuming your protein?

Recommended Posts

I was just curious as to how everyone is getting their Protein in every day. I'm newly banded and am hating life because I hate protein shakes!

If you're still on liquids, realize it will be over soon. It's a little easier to get enough Protein on mushies - just make the highest Protein choices. And once you're on solids it's very straightforward! My typical solids day would include an egg and a (veggie) sausage patty, a roll-up sandwich with 2-4 oz meat or fish, and a dinner meal with 2-4 oz solid vegetarian/meat/fish/shellfish entree.

Hope that helps!

I eat whatever Protein I consume. They dont tell you to do protein first here in Australia, so I rarely think about protein. I obviously get enough as I'm healthy. Usually I'd eat one meat based meal a day - that's dinner and would include fish, chicken or red meat. lunch will usually include something like cheese, tuna or yogurt and Breakfast is normally Cereal for me.

I'm assuming you are in the liquids or mushies stage, since you mention Protein shakes. Don't forget that milk has a decent amount of Protein in it -- you can do cream Soups made with nonfat milk. My fave is Tomato.< /p>

Also, I'm not sure what you are using for "protein shakes" -- you can also do Meal Replacement shakes or something like Carnation Instant Breakfast, which might taste better.

This phase only lasts a few weeks, so don't sweat it.

Once you are on solids you don't need Protein Shakes anymore. You'll get enough protein from eating normal food.

I have discovered the flavored tunas & I eat those a lot with a salad. My kids love them as well so if I'm not careful they're gone in no time!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
