Hello all I just made my first steps into lap-band surgery,

I contacted the Doctor to find out if my insurance would cover

the surgery and find out what all I have to do to get to my band

date. I think this is the best thing I'v done for ME in a very long time.

I'm always takeing care of others now it's my turn. Can't wait to

chat more and oh the questions I will have.

Best Wishes

Karen:thumbup:

start getting all of your dr visits paperwork from the last yr or so they need to contain documentaion that you and your dr talked weight loss and food changes. also write down any diet plans or pills you may have tried from just any store. and gyms or exercise places you may have attended. if you have more than one dr get letters from all of them recommending this surgery for you. this is not a quick process and your insurance will try and deny you without every little duck in a row. it took me a yr of fighting mine they got sick of me and approved it. oxox

I, too, have decided to take the lap band plunge and this is my first post. My appointments have all been scheduled and should coincide with my insurance approval. I hope to be scheduled for surgery in early September. I cannot believe I'm actually doing something for myself for a change. I'm so looking forward to this. I'm at an age now where I don't want to be gorgeous, don't want to be "svelt", just want to be healthy and play with the grandchildren without looking stupid. It took me six tries to get onto a float in the pool last week. The boys thought Nanny was pretty funny and, now that I look back on it, I guess maybe it was. I probably could've won $10,000 on America's Funniest Home Video's. Luckily, the pool Water hid my tears. I can't remember when I've looked forward to so many doctors visits but it'll be well worth it for me to have my healthy me back again. Would like to hear from others my age with tips and pointers, do's and don'ts.

Hey Karen,

Congratulations on taking that first step! I've contacted a surgeon's office too to ask for some additional info. Which surgeon did you contact? I'm calling Monday to make an appt to talk to my PCP. I've done my diet history. I contacted my insurance and found out they cover WLS and got a list of their requirements. I think i meet them all, except need a psych eval. Good luck to you!

Relovlee,

Don't ever give up hope! They say if you are denied to appeal and appeal and appeal. I'm really just starting the process. Really just made up my mind that i want this. So, nothing about surgery yet.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
