Lump in my throat area

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Day 6 and feeling much better. However, todays mystery for me is a weird lump feeling in my throat and chest area. It goes up and down. Its uncomfortable. It doesnt hurt but, it concerns me.

I was watching a movie "Punch Drunk Love" and the beginning of the movie had a car accident in surround sound. Made me jump so high that I hurt myself. So I decided to take a pain pill to ease the soreness that I recreated. The Pill felt stuck and to this moment I still feel there is something stuck there in my throat. Could the pill still be there? I think it would be desolved by now. SO I really dont know what it might be.

Did this feeling happen to anyone?

:)

Hi Jenn,

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! Yup, I am intimately familiar with that lump-in-the-throat/chest feeling. I had it on and off for the first three or so weeks. It faded at times but would return occasionally for no reason that I could tell.

Now at 4 weeks out it's completely gone. I'm sure it's just a normal sensation related to banding surgery. I guess it could be related to gas--it took a surprisingly long time for all of those weird pains and sensations to clear up.

As for your pill, I also had that experience with a Vitamin. The next time you have such a feeling try drinking some warm beverage. This can soothe irritated tissue and/or speed the dissolution of the pill. But I don't want to have that feeling again, so I split any pill that is larger than this: O Even if it's not strictly necessary at this point, I figure it's a good habit to get into for later on when I have restriction.

Hi there. I am very familiar with the lump in the throat feeling. I had to have my lingual tonsils lasered down because they get so swollen. These are tonsils at the base of the tongue- not the usual ones at the back of the throat. Yuck.

Anyway...what may have happened is that the pill did indeed get stuck and then dissolved in your throat- and now the area is sore and swollen a bit.

Just an idea?

Megan

Hey there- I had this too, and actually it was fairly uncomfortable. It kind of hurt down behind my breastbone too. I called the surgeon, he said it was either esophagus spasms or irritation from some reflux. He gave me a prescription for a reflux med and told me to drink some of the liquid antacid. The liquid antacid tastes disgusting, but does help.

:)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
