Recommended Posts

hI EVERYONE I AM 10 DAYS POST OP AND FOR 2 DAYS NOW I HAVE BEEN EXSPERIENCING THIS TEARING OR RIPPING FEELING NEAR MY PORT AREA. iT WILL OCCURE WHEN I TWIST OR BEND AND FEELS LIKE I HAVE RIPPED SOMETHING INSIDE. i THINK I NOTICED IT WHEN I ALSO NOTICED THE SWELLING GONE DOWN IN MY PORT AREA CUZ MY INSIDES FELT LIKE THEY WERE UNPROTECTED AND BOUNCING AROUND MORE THAN BEFORE, WITHOUT THE SWELLING TO CUSHION THEM.

ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS MIGHT BE?

tHANK YOU <><

Don't be alarmed....your port area is going to hurt for like months....I think mine truly hurt for about 3-4 months and I am 8 months out and it still hurts on and off. If I wear tight jeans and sitting in them for a long time, my port area is sore, if I lean in on a table to reach for something and it hits my port area, it kinda hurts alittle...and my port is also tilted a bit, but dont forget, you have a plastic object connected to your muscle wall, that your body dont want there....you'll get used to it after a while.

Good luck.

I'm 11 days post-op and have the same ripping feeling pain when I cough, sneeze, turn wrong, walk too much, etc...

I'm pretty sure it's just part of the healing process. When I do feel the pain it's enough for me to stop what I am doing and hold my side for a moment.

Just be cautious and try not to over do anything.

I have the same exact issue and I'm in week 3 of recovery. Mine has set me back a lot because my job is to sit at a computer all day at a call center. People think that's easy because it's not physical, but it's worse that standing around with this burning sensation. I was really worried about it (I was not warned about this feeling from the Dr.) and they said it was completely normal. Mine has gotten a little better each day, unless I over-do it, but I still feel it several times a day. Wearing a girdle or some type of compression garment helps a lot. Spanx are a God-send for me and they really help. Somehow it gives you more support.

Good luck!

Hi,

I also have the same pain. You can feel a small lump to the right of my incision, which is where the pain radiates from when I bend or twist. It feels like a little beebe in there. I went today for my 2 week post-op visit and my Dr. said the same thing...it's normal, it's just scar tissue, nothing to worry about. That made me feel better because I had myself convinced I had a hernia. One thing I found that helps with the pain is to put a bunch of medical tape on it criss-crossed. It just helps to hold it in, and when it's held in, it feels much better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
