I just got approved!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am from the Des Moines area. After several frustrating months I believe I have jumped through all the hoops. I was denied by my insurance company and we appealed. The approval letter came today! I am so excited. I don't believe my knees can carry this old body much longer.

I just found this site tonight and have a feeling I will be spending my fair share of time on it. It really helps to see what other people are going through.

Good Luck to all of us!

I just got my approval on Friday. I will go to the group meeting on Aug. 2nd. That is my last hoop I need to jump through. I will then meet with my doctor for my surgery date to information on my 2 week pre op diet.

My doctor is Dr LeMasters. She is great. Her father fought obesity and all the problems it creates all his life. She has a real tenderness and understanding of the issue.

My insurance is BC/BS Alliance Select. They denied me the first time. I was shocked. I have well over 150 lbs to lose. I had all of my tests and all of the doctors said I would be a great subject for the surgery. The insurance company denied me stating:"Medically not necessary"

Dr LeMasters sent a teriffic appeal letter and in about 3 weeks we got our reply.

I know I will nerver win a beauty contest but I can hardly wait to be (hopefully) walk without my walker.

Keep in touch! Your letter will arrive.

Oh no they denied you??? That worries me i have about 120lbs to lose and am really nervous about getting denied. I'm planning on going to Glascock and am in constant contact with his office, I'm going to call the insurance company tomorrow to make sure that they got the paperwork so hopefully I can get a letter of approval but if I'm denied I hope it does it quickly because I only have till the end of december to get the surgery after that I graduate from college and loss my insurance. He's hoping. I hope your meeting goes well let me know when your surgery date is I'll send good thoughts your way :blushing:

I JUST GOT THE CALL ON THURSDAY.

So i know the feeling, I thought I would be denied 1st time around but was pleasantly surprised when I got the call. Now just waiting for the letter, before the Doc will see me. I had BCBS and from this forum thought I was in for a fight as I only have 100lbs or so to lose.

So I am ready to start!!

Thanks so much for this thread. I am from the Ames area and am just beginning the whole process - having signed up for the informational meeting in Sept. I was interested in having Dr. LeMasters perform surgery (if I get that far!) and am happy to see your comments about her.

Keep posting - I am so new to this that I feel overwhelmed, but excited about the possibilities!

Lets keep in contact Bambam. It is a long process. We a lady I work with who has had gastric bypass told me it would take 6 months or better I thought she was crazy. She was right. It is quite a process. Just take it as it comes. Are you coming to Des Moines for the meeting? It will overwhelm you also but you will come away with lots of questions answered.

My surgery is next Wednesday. I am so anxious.

Let me know how you are doing.

Take care

Haffdime -

Yes I will be coming to DM for the meeting. I have been reading a lot on the forums and online to try to inform myself, but know I will learn even more through the seminar and continuing to read everything I can get my hands on. I did call my insurance company to see if they would cover it and they will - so that was a relief!

Best of luck with your surgery - you must be so excited! Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing. I'm anxious to hear your experience.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
