Affects of Lapband on sleep apnea

Recommended Posts

Are you still taking Ambien CR? I was wondering if there is any issue with the size of the pill or if there are any effects from the timed release in the pouch?

I am going to have an another sleep study done in Sept. This will be almost 16 months since I found out that I have sleep apnea. I was banded in Sept. of 07 and now Iam down 60lbs from my sleep study. I hope to be down another 10lbs before then. I also have not been using the machie as much. I use the machine about 3 hours a day and take the mask off. So now I have a dental applaince and doing well with it so far. Will see what the test results say in Sept. Keep in mind that sleep apena may or may no go away, denpends on a lot of issues that you might have. However they do say weight loss is the best.

I'm still taking Ambien CR. For me pill is small enough to go right thru to main stomach. Last time I felt restriction was in hospital being banded, 1/15/08. I also take several Vitamin pills. a multi, B-Complex & a large Neuro-PS. I will visit Family on East Coast + have them listen to me sleep in September. They said I used to keep everyone awake. Good Luck Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup:

I'm still taking Ambien C R. I been taking it a few years now. I guess they go thru easy. I don't have any restriction. I take B-complex & a multi seniors Vitamin pill. Also a large neuro -ps pill. I'll have to change the way I do things if I ever get a fill. I have tried to go without ambien but cannot sleep. The hardest part of the band & ambien for me is staying away from food. Ambien alone will cause me to mindlessly eat. I try to be careful. Hope this helps. sleep has a lot to do with weight loss, I'm just now learning. Hasta Pronto, George:thumbs_up:

Ambien is one of the meanest sleep meds I've ever tried! My aunt took it and made phones calls all through the night to her kids, my mom took it and started eating all night, AND walking into walls (BRUISES EVERYWHERE, FALLS DOWN THE STAIRS, HOSPITAL VISITS), I took it for awhile and my husband had great sex :crying:(so he says) that I DON'T REMEMBER!

I don't mind great sex, but I would at least like to remember it!:)

Anything that can remove all your sensibilities should be take warily. There are other sleep meds that Don't make you a senseless vombie, or leave you with a HORRIBLE HEADACHE later on down the road.

If you know it makes you sleep eat, GET OFF IT!

Thanks. I'm down to about 5 Doctors now. My spine fusion Doctor released me on 8/7/08 with a your healed now. My GP Doctor 8/8/08 said my blood labs & weight loss are fantastic. I moved to Las Vegas to get my whole body over hauled. Without ambien cr I do not sleep. Without sleep I do not heal. I have learned to stay away from food after taking pill. I've made all my Doctors aware. WLS (band) is the best thing that has happened to me. Prior to WLS I had to have spine, shoulder & ankle surgeries. Now I need Knees, Prostate & a sleep labs. In my old life, I was a hard rock miner. I am in far better shape than other miners. I will be paying off these surgeries for some time. Money won't buy happiness, but it will buy the misery that I prefer. Thanks for concern. I have lost over 125 pounds, so things are changing quick. Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup: I'll get off it= Next Goal

Sorry boys, I know I shouldn't be posting in your fourm BUT I need to tell Papa this... I also have severe sleep apnea & the device I chose does not cover my face. I have a head strap & my air hose is attached to a, well the best i could describe it as is, a plastic/latex type material pillow with 2 nostral holes in it that only rests on my nose. It's soft & I don't look like a fighter pilot when I sleep.< /p>

CPAP Masks

look at the Mirage Swift II....that is pretty much what mine looks like.

Thanks for the info skinipete. Its not the mask I have trouble with. I am an aircraft mechanic and I wear a respirator for breathing protection with no problems. Its exhaling against the pressure I have a problem with. I have tried CPAP, Bi-pap with c-flex and autopap. I have tried nose mask, full face and nose pillows. For some reason I go into panic mode (heart rate sky rockets, full panic sweats and shortness of breath) Unfortunately my insurance is Kaiser and they have been very little help.(thats another frustrating story). If you can't pass a titration study they won't prescribe a machine. I am not sure whether I could eventually adjust to the machine after a few months but Kaiser won't allow me to try without first passing a titration study. Their reaction was "Oh well you failed the test, see you later" No why, lets try this or nothing to help. I am basically on my own. Sorry to vent.

Again..sorry for the intruision BUT Papa..you neeed encouragment!!! When I go to bed the pressure from the CPAP pushing air into my nose is freaky (I wish it didn't DO that) but as I breath the pressure seems to subside.

If you think you can't get past that, ask your Doc for somnthing that will gently relax you at bedtime so you can overcome the fear or weirdness or whatever.

AND another thing I do...I wear earplugs...I hate the noise of the CPAP (sounds like Darth Vader breathing!) AND I cover the lights (why the hell do they have lights when we need to SLEEP!?) with a black sock.

OK....I have given you good reason to try it again...do NOT make me come over there & kick your ass.

Thanks skinipete for intruding I don't think anyone minds. A good kick in the butt is probably exactly what I need. I am nearing the end of the adjustment phase of my dental device and I just now emailed my PCP for a referral to a ENT to discuss my nasal problem that was seen by my neuromuscular sleep dentist. I have also emailed the pharmacist at Kaiser about a sleep med that will "relax me" long enough to complete a titration study without affecting the study results in a negative way. Hopefully by the time my psych eval comes around I will 100% CPAP compliant. Kaiser has a 20 week wait before your first appt. and I just started the Lap band program last week. I have already lost 31 pounds in 8 weeks preparing for the WLS ( it took me 8 weeks to get the orientation seminar) and hope to lose another 110 pounds. With or without WLS I have to lose the weight. Again thank you. :D

I've been on a CPAP for twelve years and getting used to the mask took some getting used to. My setting was at 14psi after losing 100 lbs with the band my pressures is down to 5psi. I hope that some day when I get to my goal weight, I can stop using the machine.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
