Hello --- I'm new!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I've decided to have the lap band surgery probably in October or November of this year. I have found out that my health insurance will pay 90% of the cost. I've been "dieting" my way up to 267 lbs and I'm finally fed up. This is it.

I've already been to an information session and everything....this is the right thing for me to do. I just wanted to say "hello" and sort of introduce myself.

I am from NC. I'm 40 years old. I have 2 kids -- 19 and 9 and I've been dating a wonderful (supportive) guy for 1 1/2 years now.

I want to lose the weight for me. I'm tired of being tired....if that makes any sense? :-)

I look forward to hearing any feedback you may can share with me to sort of ease my nervousness about all this.

Welcome Cindy!

I am south of you in South Carolina. This board offers so many forums, each full of good information and support. As I was researching the band, I too was nervous. However, as I began to work the board, I recognized so many others had experiences similiar to mine and they were being successful. They were gaining control of their lives. So I was banded April 28.

I wish you the best in your lapband journey. Just know that the thousands on this board are here for you.

Congrats on making the decision to get banded! I was banded last week Friday, almost a week ago - amazing how quickly the time passes. I love this forum - found it when I was researching the band and

contemplating whether or not it would be a solution for me. I remember the two weeks leading up to the surgery I experienced a wide range of emotions and it was very helpful coming to this website finding that so many others were going through the same thing as me.

I wish you the best of luck in seeking your new life - I'm so excited that I've started my journey and look forward to sitting in this office chair a year from now as a completely new, healthy, vivacious, "normal-sized" woman!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
