Hey Guys,

One surgical office I spoke with said I would have to be on liquid for ten days prior to lapband surgery to shrink the liver,I assume to make it eisier for the Doc while he's in there. Is this common procedure?

Yes it is a common procedure

Some doctors require it for all of their patients and some require it for patients who have a higher BMI.

The reason behind it is to help make it easier for the doctor and it helps to shrink the fat around and near the liver

It seems pretty common for obese people to have a "fatty" liver. My dr. had me go on a low-glycemic diet. (Just basically eating from a large variety of healthy foods.) I followed his directions, didn't want any chances of surgical problems!

very common. also kind of mean -- it's tough to do before surgery without the help of the band. BUT...you will start losing as soon as your full liquid diet starts, so that's nice too.

Yes, It is verrrrry common. I was to be on a 10 day liquid diet, but my surgery was put off a few days so I was on a 15 DAY LIQUID DIET!!! :) When I first got the list of what I could have I sat down and cried. I just knew I couldn't do it. The only thing that you couldn't see through was the 3 cups of milk I could have a day. Everything else was clear. Well, I did it and didn't cheat once. Just think of the ending affects. You are on your way to a healther you!

You CAN do it!! :)

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
