New to forum - pre-op testing tomorrow - banding on 8.13.08

Recommended Posts

Hello All -

I am new to the forum and have enjoyed reading all the helpful information here. I go to Day One Health in Chicago tomorrow for my pre-op testing and have already scheduled my surgery for August 13, 2008.

I have been a zaftig woman all my life - really had no issues with love and life being a plus-size girl - but am now choosing to do this procedure for health reasons - lower bloodpressure - diabetes - etc.

If anybody wants to share their experiences feel free - or just say hi!

All my best -

Susan

Hello - I live in Crete which is South of the city near the Indiana border. I see you're up on the North-side - my husband teaches in Winnetka.

Are you also having your surgery at Day One Health in the City?

Aloha Everyone! I have been on the waiting list 15 months with Kaiser in Honolulu. I just went to my orientation 6/17. Now I am realizing it may be another 5 months or more to get my surgery. I don't want to get discouraged, I actually started looking into bariatric surgery 5 years ago. I kept holding the hope that, with good healthy eating choices & exercise I could lose the weight. Instead, I have actually gained another 80 pounds, bringing my current pounds to lose, to 150. I attended my first group last week & there was only one other person there, out of about 15, who was going to have the Lap Band and he sounded like he was being swayed by the end of the group session. I am hoping there are some people in this community I can relate to. For now I will just read & learn as much as I can. Thankyou for providing me with a place to come for support.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
