  1. 1. Are you completely happy with your lap band

    • Wished I would have did it sooner?
    • Best decision I have ever made
    • Still in the not sure stage
    • Get this thing out of me

It is truely the best decision I have made in a long time. I wasn't ready until about a year ago but it has been picture perfect ever since. The small sacrifices are so worth being able to wear normal sized clothes and fit into airplane seats and not have to inspect chairs to make sure they are sturdy enough to hold me before I sit down, and I could go on for a long time but you get the point.

Hang in there, everyone still in Bandster Hell. It gets better.

I could have gone without the 6 month pre-op Doctor Diet. Where I gained weight. I was not ready for the band before spine fusion surgery. I would tell anybody to get head right before band. This is the fastest change to my life ever. The stuff I gave up (bad choices), is nothing compared to life quality now. Banded 1/15/08. Dr. Soong & Atkinson, Las Vegas, Nevada. No fills yet. Over 117 pounds Lost. Today I hiked 5 miles on Rocky Gap Road at Red Rock Canyon. I was 50 feet from 6 Big sheep, I think 4 of them weighed more then me. Hasta Pronto, George:cool2:

I would also do it all over again. I had a bad reaction to the anethesia and dry heaved for about a week, could not drive for week due to the dizziness, but YES I would do it all over again. This has been the best thing that I have ever done. Good Luck and welcome to the best part of you life.

Hi, I just got banded yesterday! I dont regret it at all. I have been on this forum for a couple of months and I was thinking all types of stuff! I read so much on how some people cant deal with the pain and how gassy they are. Surprisingly I only got signs of gas yesterday and today I feel great! I wish I would of done this sooner. I am looking forward to a better lifestyle.

I am still in the "not sure" stage because I am still unhappy with the swelling in my port area (I am 17 days post-op) - somedays I feel restriction some days I don't - I don't understand why that happens - I do not see the doctor again until August 11th - if I am not down any by then which would be about 6 weeks after surgery I will probably be in the big-time disappointed stage. I am hardly eating anything - you would think weight would be falling off but it isn't. Thanks.

Without a doubt one of the best things I ever did for myself. I do wish in many ways I would have had the option earlier in life, however, as many have said, perhaps I was not prepared for it til now.

I am really glad to see those new to the band, giving themselves time to adjust, and learn, and see just how much it can help---before judging!! There is a stage you feel like it is a fruitless help in there, but it passes, and then the band begins to work!!! As long as you are willing to work with it, it does a great job---but it is defiinitely a team effort.

Love my band, love the results I have acheived with it. Continue to recommend it to anyone who asks!!

Kat

I am so in love with this thing and I haven't even gotten the first fill. BUT it is just a tool and you have to work at it. It isn't the miracle, magic pill or solution that I am afraid some people think it is. We were asked this question last night at our support group meeting and not one person said yes. WE all just cheered. I have lost a total of 33 lbs (including the 2 week liquid diet). But I am still loosing but slowly for now until I get some kind of restriction!

I'm not too happy about it today. The severe pains caused from gas (so I hear), Constipation and I'm taking in less than 700 calories a day and have only lost 14 pounds since 6/27. I really want a glass of wine today! I'm frustrated. Very frustrated. I don't understand why I'm so irregular, I'm trying very hard to make a lot of vegetable/fiber choices. The gas pains when I go to sleep wake me up and make me feel absolutely awful. No matter what position I put myself in, they remain. Getting the Water in and not drinking before or after meals is a big challenge too. But, on the postive side, I walked two miles today. But still, I'm very frustrated. Sorry.

If you would have asked me a few days ago, I would have said... "What in the heck did I do and why?". I think during my first 4 days post-op I even emailed my friends telling them I wish I would have just stayed fat & not gone through with it.

I was in that much discomfort....

Now that I am a week post-op and the major pain is gone, I am REALLY glad I did it! This IS going to work for me.

I feel so much better that I decided to do it. I learned to except the fact that this was a tool and that I wouldn't lose weight the gastric bypass way!! (very quickly) That in fact it is about losing it at a pace.

There are so many factors that determine how quickly you will lose with the band. My SIL had bypass about the same time I had band surgery. I've lost more than she has. It depends on how strictly you follow your doctor's guidelines, how much you exercise, your body's metabolism, etc. You can do this. It's hard work but I have found that I appreciate things that I had to work hard for more than the things that come easily. You have probably struggled for a long time with your weight, it wouldn't be healthy to lose it too fast. As long as you are going into the process knowing that it is a process, you will be fine. There will be ups and downs, but you can handle it.

Good luck to you!:frown:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
