21 yro Newbie on the Move

Recommended Posts

Hey! So my name is Mary and I'm 21 years of age. I'm new to this..and very nervous. I really don't know what to say.

I just scheduled my surgery for Aug. 11 with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I leave for T.J. on Sunday, Aug. 10 and come back home on Wednesday, Aug. 13. For those that are questioning prices (as which I did), the total cost is a little less than $8,000. This covers surgery, pre-op tests, hospital stay as well as 2 nights at a 5 star hotel, and transportation to and from San Dieago Airport. I think it is a pretty sweet deal

Umm...so a little background about me. I currently work for an airline, so I have free travel benefits. I can fly down to San Dieago and back for nothing. However, a week after my surgery will be my last week with the company. I received a new job with the FAA as an air traffic controller and will be going to government training at the end of August.

Here comes my tricky part. I want to get the surgery done before I quit so I have the free flights, and also my training consists of Monday thru Friday and definently no days off allowed. However, I will be relocating from Kentucky to Oklahoma, where the training is held. That is for 3 months, and then I will be relocating to Stockton, CA to start my career. I'm going to try to get down to T.J. at least for my first fill while in Oklahoma, but not sure if that is going to be possible. I'm going to need to find a fill doctor in Oklahoma, and then in Cali. I feel like it would be smarter to wait off...but I will get this surgery done and then be able to relax in a class room for 3 months.

Well, anyways that is me. I hope that didn't sound stupid lol.

MaryJo, wow! You have a lot of change in your life. I wish you all the best. I also work for an airline, so I hope you have good luck non-reving for your surgery.

Mary Jo, Did you choose Mexico because you are a self pay? I live in Maine, so Mexico is a little out of our way...lol. If Insurance does not pay for my procedure I am going to have to bow out. Where will you have your fills?? I wish you all the best and enjoy your stay in Mexico..Kimberly

Hey kfgates! I'm not even trying the insurane route. Not only will it take me more time than I want to wait, I don't think I will be approved bc I have a BMI less than 40. Oh well...and I rather not gain more wait to MAYBE get approved.

I'm going to Mexico because it is cheaper, but also because it doesn't take forever to get an appt in. I was actually going to have the surgery done in Ohio, but changed my mind after I found out I was to move to Cali. With that doctor I had to go to a seminar, then it took a month and a half in order to get in for my pre-op tests, and then I would be able to have my surgery in 4 weeks. This way I scheduled one month from the date...the other way would of been 3 months.

I'm not sure quite yet where I am going to get fills. I'm going to start calling around to the local doctors to see who will see me. If none will then I'll make arrangements to either go back to T.J. or travel to a Fill Center USA.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
