Newly banded, what is this feeling?

Recommended Posts

Nothing but walking helped with the gas pains. The night of the surgery I was up every hour walking back and forth in my room due to the gas pains. I am now 10 days out and all gas gone. A couple incisions still sore and can only sleep on right side still but better everyday.

It is still hard to believe I actually did this

I was banded 1/15/08, 6 days later i got permission to use pool from my Doctor. Dove in and at 10 deep was reminded that I have a band around my stomach. I don't feel it any more. I swim every day & hike in mountains when not over 100 degrees. Meet a lot of people hiking or swimming that can read your scars. Like band, rotator cuff, ankle & spine surgery scars. Staying active is something I'm getting better at. Good Luck All! Hasta Pronto, George

I'm so glad that this question was asked. I am 10 days post-op (surgery July 2) and I am having a similar problem: chest discomfort/pressure with shoulder pain. Usually happens after I eat something. I called the Bariatric nurse and they told me I shouldn't have any chest pain so they suggested I have an EKG. So I went to have an EKG and they said my heart was fine. Now, by reading everyone's posts, it seems like chest pressure is a normal complaint after lap band surgery. (I thought I has having a heart attack!) My problem is I have not burped since surgery. I see that everyone seems to be burping and feeling better, but I cannot burp for some reason. Do you think there's still a lot of gas in my stomach? I thought most of the gas would have been absorbed already. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for all the helpful hints. It's has not yet been 48 hours since I woke up to this new way of life. I guess considering my age and state of health I am doing pretty well. I still am not hungry at

all and am having trouble getting all my fluids in. My daughters are with me and keep bringing me different things to try. So far the sugar free popsicles have tasted the best. I need to start my protien shakes today, but the thought makes me ill.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
