Hungry or not Hungry???

Recommended Posts

I am 2 days post op and I cannot tell if I'm hungry or not hungry. I'm trying to stay on a schedule but I cannot seem to get all 3 liquid meals in along with the 50mg of Protein and 64oz of Water.

Do I need to set a timer to say it's time to do XYZ???

I know how you feel!! I am also 2 days post op and feel the exact same. My surgeon and the medical team gave me a free timer to "eat"(liquid meals) and drink. What I do, is every 15 minutes I drink 1 oz of Water (or water mixed with crystal lite) over a 16 hour period (the time your awake during the day). That way, throughout the day I know I am receiving the needed 64 oz. of water a day.

I am 15 days post and I have that feeling more than I did right after the surgery. Right after I couldn't really even drink alot of Water or protien drink, I can now but at times when I think I'm hungry 9 times out of 10 that's my head. So now I am working on listening to my body. When my tummy feels funny I won't eat or I just stop what eating. So far it's been a good guage for me.

I have to admit I had so many roars and rumbles right after I had surgery I had no idea what was hunger and what was not. I just made sure I got my Protein and Water in on a schedule and it worked out fine. Even now 6 weeks out I find if I am busy I can "forget" to eat (like that is not totally amazing) so I have to make sure I eat every 5 hours or so just until I feel full. I have some "head hunger" too but I have been very strict with the three meals a day only and that has helped keep me on track. Banded life is a whole new experience!

Don't get me wrong, before surgery I knew what a hunger pain was, as I was on the liquid diet for 2 weeks prior. I am 3 days post banding and I can't tell if I'm hungry or if my left side (where my port is) is causing pain. It drives me nuts. I know that the pain will subside, hopefully as I run out of Loritab!!!

I go to my full Fluid diet tomorrow. Has anyone got any Soups they recommend on the full fluid diet before I get to the mushy diet?

Thanks

Ben

Great idea for maximizing your water intake.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
