Does anyone else have hypothyroidism? I have for almost 18 yrs. and I am having a hard time for the last year getting my levels right(which has helped w/ gaining weight ,UGH!) My PCP (who I am getting ready to change cause he isn't on board w/ any type of WLS)said that no WLS doctor would even look at me until the thyroid is under control. anyone know anything about all this. Thanks & God bless, Donna(Punkin')

I think your PCP is right, Donna. Thyroid dysfunction is (supposedly) easy to control with meds, once you find the right level. So once you have that done you'll be on your way.

Good luck with the new PCP!!

Screw the PCP! Find a endocrinologist preferrable associated with a medical center who has experience with hypothyroidism. I've have it all my life and what the numbers say on the tests is only half the story. Each person is at their optimal levels differently on the same scale. The PCP probably took a short rotation in med school on this very complex issue.

Good luck to you

Good luck to you

I received my band March 23, and My doctor had no problem even though my levels were not total in check yet. Now that I have my band things are getting much better and my levels are almost normal. I take synthroid every day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
