Will I get weighed again?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm recently found this forum last week. My wife and I both decided to get banded and just finished all of our pre-surgery testing for the lap-band. Hopefully our insurance will approve us quickly so we can still get this done before the end of summer.

Does anyone know if it matters if your BMI drops below the required number during the pre-op diet? My BMI was 35.6 on the day I met with the doctor. Since I have hypertension my BMI meets the requirement for my insurance, but what happens if or when I loose weight during the pre-op diet? Should I be concerned? Was anyone else in the same situation?

Once you're approved, your're approved. They won't take it back. I was weighed on the day of surgery and had fallen under my required BMI of 40. It doesn't matter, they expect that you'll lose weight during the pre-op phase. Good luck to you!

Thanks for asking that question.....I was getting ready to ask the same question because I am just above 35 BMI and know I will lose weight during the pre-op stage. I just want to hurry and get started on this weightloss journey and to better health.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had more to add to this post. I'm now on the pre op diet and I'm starting to lose weight. I still have this nightmare that my surgery will not be covered. My wife says I'm crazy. Anyone else in the same situation? Please tell me I have nothing to worry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
