Port positions

Recommended Posts

HI, I have been reading about port posistions for some time and just read the thread about the bikini line port...anyway, my doctor said he is going to place my port between my rib cage right under the sternum. He said he would use the low-profile since I do not have as much body fat on this area.

Does anyone else have theirs at this position and should I expect it to move or stay put if placed there?

Mine is on the right side, just below the rib cage and it is sewn into the muscle so it will be less likely to shift or move. Some days it's more sensitive than others.

I guess a question I should have asked is if this is where he places all of his ports? I am very bottom heavy, from waist down. Of course the top is not skinny but no where near the bottom, I don't know if my shape has anything to do with this proposed placement or if it just his standard placement.

For all the Dr, Spivak patients out there, is this where he placed your port as well. I have now read through all of the old posts I could find under the search feature for this topic. I didn't see anyone else who's port is positioned right in the middle up between the ribs just below the sternum.

I have heard of that...my doc just said he gets less problems with the port on the left side below the ribcage. Mine is just above my waist band...no problmes so far. I'm not sure what problems ARE caused by having it below the sternum in the middle. If I run across something I'll post a link, but others are sure to post soon...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
