Must be a failure

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this forum. Hello everyone. I'm hoping to find others with the same problem I have. I had my lapband surgery June 13, 2007, and to date I have only lost 30lbs. Is this normal or what? I have only had about 4 fills since my initial surgery. The last time I went in for one, the fill doctor told me that she would like to see a little more weight loss next time. So needless to say, it has been about 4 months since my last fill.

I was just wondering if there were others out there who have gone through the same thing. Is 30lbs. in a year normal, or should I have lost more?

Waiting to hear from you guys about this. I'm beginning to think I'm a failure.

I have only lost 39 pounds over the year. You are not alone. My doctor told me that it might take 3 to 4 years to take all the weight off. Everyone is different. I do not exercise a lot so that is my biggest downfall. I feel the weight will come off in its on time depending on what i eat or how much exercise i get. Don't beat yourself up. Remember you are 30 pounds down not up.

Thank you Huntermom. I feel a lot better now to know that I'm not alone. I thought I was doing something wrong. It also has been a difficult year for me. Right after I had my surgery, we found out that my dad's bladder cancer came back. It got treated and cured. Then he went into the hospital in October of 07 for poor circulation in his legs. Had surgery, then his colon started dying. We had to take him off the respirator, and sent to Hospice. Where he died a week later. So needless to say it has been a rough year. Hospital food is not the healthiest either.

I had a friend who had the surgery and she lost a lot of weight almost immediately. I guess I had great expectations. As you and my sister said aleast you haven't gained weight. I do feel so much better than I did. Thanks so much for all the advice.

Thank you so much Jack for your advice also. I don't feel so alone now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
