Anyone have to do 6 months prep?

Recommended Posts

Today was my first day of orintation for the lap band, I was told it is required to do 24 weeks of weekly visits to a prep class prior to surgery. Also, they require that you loose 10% of your body weight before surgery as well. My class will begin 9/3/08 and we have the option of doing the opifast diet during this time. Has anyone else had to go through something similar to get the surgery? I did not know the process was sooo long.

We have a lot in common :smile2:. Had my first consultation appointment on July 2nd. Insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised diet, although right now the Doctor I'm going to only offers a once-a-month program. Hoping to get on board with a weekly program they are starting. I lost weight on Optifast about 10 years ago. It's an all-liquid diet. Let me know if you have questions. Have a great day -- we can do this!!

Hi twisty, thank you for the response. So was the all liquid diet hard for you? Good luck to you on your journey too, take care!

Hi! I stumbled onto this website when I was checking out the lap-band method. I thought I'd see what everyone has to say and get some feedback. I'm at least 175 pounds overweight:frown: and really starting to feel every single one of them. I'm not the healthiest eater but give me a break!!!

my insurance requires the 6 mo dr supervised diet, and I just got my pcp on board last week, so this is the start of my journey. I was wondering if there was a special place on this board for people like us.... looking for support for the long 6 mos ahead! lol Well, if not, I guess we can just keep this thread moving and we can all keep eachother company?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
