Looking for a little help/advice...

Recommended Posts

Hello all-

New to the group and I have a few questions I am hoping you can help with. I've had my band 5 years and I am having it removed due to erosion on Friday. I've been reading about swelling, etc. and I'm wondering what to expect. My doctors are in Mexico and there is a language barrier, plus they're just not very good with follow-up anyway. The band will be removed through endoscopy, not laproscopically. I'm wondering what my diet should be like for the first few days and if I should expect a lot of swelling- should I bring my elastic pants to fly back home in? Any advice or suggestions from people with experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I had my band taken out June 23 because of slippage. The recovery was so easy. My surgery was on Monday and I was back at the gym by Thursday. I did have a little swelling that lasted about a week and a half. My stomach was sore but moving felt better then laying around for me. It seemed the more I sat around the worse it felt so I kept moving. Way easier recovery.

Ps. I am hoping to be rebanded soon.

Good Luck,

Paula

Paula, I had my band removed on 6-10-08. I had open removal because of scar tissue. Healing process has been slow but, uneventful. I am thankful for that. I too feel better up and moving around.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
