Congratulations on your banding. I don't know if I will be required to have the enema or not. However I do know that when I had a surgery while i was pregnant and they couldn't put me completely under I did not have one, and needless to say when the doctor came over to start the procedure she yelled for "someone to come and clean up this mess" and from where she was standing I can imagine what it was. With the surgeon having all the little holes open to your gut, it would not be a bad idea to not introduce all those grems into the air while you cannot control your bodily functions.

No, I didn't have to have an enema. I'm continually surprised by the different rules that different doctors have.

Take care,

My surgeon required for the three days prior to surgery one enema a night and Milk of Magnesia (3 nights), 5 week preop liquid diet and then clear liquids the night before surgery, funsville!

I would think that any doctor that required you to be on liquids for long before the surgery wouldnt require one. Just being on liquids alone will clean you out pretty good. lol

But thats another one of those things some require some dont.

I've been on all liquids for the past 2 weeks. There really isn't anything in there to clean out. I would imagine an enema is for people who aren't required to do a preop diet

That's right. My doc doesnt require a pre-op diet, but I do have to take Milk of Magnesia two days before surgery and be on clear liquids for two days prior to surgery.

Nope, did not have to have one, but wished I would have done one as I had to be at the hospital early and could not have a bowel movement before I left, too scared of surgery, plus you get constipated after surgery, so I guess it would be a good idea!

Yes - and I locked myself in the bathroom so I could attempt to contort myself successfully. Gives new meaning the the phase, "Shove it up your..." - Really?! As if I could:ohmy:!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
