NO fill but still feeling restriction

Recommended Posts

:confused:I was banded June 5 and I haven't had a fill yet, but am feeling restriction???? or what I think is restriction....since I haven't had a fill yet, I don't know exactly what restriction feels like so this is my best guess. Tightness when eating certain foods, and in the beginning it's hard to eat...much easier for me in the evening. Also my nose runs when I am getting full. I know this sounds weird, but it does. I was wondering about anyone else out there and how they were feeling and coping and what their docs had said to them about it and how to know if you need to get a fill and if this is normal.

I personally did not experience this but I have heard of others who have.

Do you know what size band you have ? I know sometimes docs fill the bands for surgery some , for instance a 10 cc band a doc might but 1 or 2 cc's in when a patient comes out of surgery .

Also some patients get restriction from the band itself.

It does sound like you do have some restriction . How much are you able to eat at a time and how long before you are hungry again . ( how many hrs between meals )

I know i need a fill when i can eat more than about 1/2 cup of food at a time and/or my weight loss slows down . Sometimes If im comfortable w/ the way my weight loss is going and i can eat quite a bit i'll hold off. Initially i got a fill about every 6 weeks.

Hope that helps a little

Mindy

It's possible to have restriction without a fill. Sometimes it's temporary (just the swelling post-surgery), and sometimes just the presence of the unfilled band is sufficient (at least for a while).

I know I've read other posts where people have said a runny nose is a sign of fullness/satisfaction.

I just started the soft-solid stage last night. No restriction for me :-( So it'll have to be will power for me for the next four weeks until I get my first fill.

My nose runs when i get full . Its very bazaar. LOL It took me a little while to figure out that's what was going on . But it does. Not all the time but most of the time. Im gonna loose brought up a good point , could be restriction from swelling still from surgery . But I would enjoy it while you have for as long as you have it.

When you go to your doc , talk to him about it , tell him what you can eat and what you cant , if anything and the 2 of you should be able to decide if you even need a fill.

I too tought I had restriction. as it turns out on my first fill I had already .5 fill in by error, not from dr but from medial facility that tested them. I have a 9.75cc band by dr kuri.

I am 4 months banded and love it. I work out daily and work hard for my weight loss, and am very pleased so far with my trainer and my band.

good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
