Recommended Posts

Had my first fill a week ago. 1.5cc in a 14cc band, there was 1.5 already in there the dopey nurse told me! So 3 cc's in a 14cc band and I feel absolutely nothing!!! Could eat a horse right now on a bet!!. When does the band start to help?

It's gonna be awhile. Most docs are conservative with fills. The goal is to not overfill and have the patient be aware of what the feeling of being "full " feels like with the band. It is truly a process.

I think I just reached my "sweet spot". It took 8 fills and I have a 4cc band. I am currently filled at 3cc's. Everyone is different though.

Hi, You are probably a long way from good restriction. I have 10.5cc in a 14 cc band. I went for my first fill at 5 weeks post op. They gave me 3cc and told me I had 2cc already. I had really no restriction at 5cc, I went in one week later and got another 2cc and I felt a bit of restriction. I went back one week later and got 2 cc. I had some restriction at 7cc but not near enough. Went back and got 2cc again. They are done under floroscopy and i looked really tight. I noticed my restiction slowly fading. I went in 4 weeks later and the dr. could not believe how wide open my band was compared to 4 weeks before so he gave me 1.5 cc and said to come back in a week for more. Surprisingly I have pretty good restriction now. I really don't know whats going on. I was thinking I have a leak some where. I guess time will tell. Everybody is different so you cant really go by my experience. good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
