Pre-Op Appt. Down...6 days to go!!

Recommended Posts

I just had my pre-op appt, and I'm getting so excited (and a little nervous). My surgery is on the 8th! My doctor, Dr. J. Cribbins is great! He's laid back, and I am completely comfy with him! Which is great! I told him I was hating the pre-op diet, and he said just keep trying, and that it really does shrink the liver. He said just keep it healthy and I'll be fine.

I feel so much better, and I'm really looking forward to getting banded!!

What is the pre opt diet like? I go for my first pre opt appt. July 18th. My surgery date is Aug. 4th.

Well, with my doctor, it's a liquid diet, no sugar, low fat. Only steamed veggies, and strained Soups. High protien is really stressed! Like protien shakes and such. However, he did tell me today that the liquid is not so much important, as the low sugar, low fat. He stressed that whatever I eat should be healthy... and, the liquid part gets your body ready for post-op I guess. Every doctor has a little bit different pre-op diet. A friend of mine is having surgery the same day, but her diet is like the adkins diet. No breads, carbs, sugars basically.

Hi, my surgery is on the 8th also. I had my pre-op apt yesterday. I have been on the pre-op diet since Saturday, I have lost 2 pounds since I started. I am sticking to it, my husband says a little too much. I have only been averaging 500-700 calories a day. But I am getting 50 grams of Protein and that is what is important. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
