Lansing, KS (not too far from Kansas City)

I have had my lapband for a relatively short period of time (4/18/08), but I would love to share my success with other in my area. I have lost 56 pounds so far and have just about 100 to go.

A little about me, I am a 35 woman, married (to a deployed soldier), and work from home.

Even if you don't need a mentor, I would love to meet other in my area with the Lapband. There aren't too many around me that I know of. Looking forward to hearing from someone!

I live in Shawnee - not too far from Lansing. I was banded on June 4th, 2008. I get my first fill on July 9th. Right now, I am fighting my appetite. I was doing real well until I got into about the third week. I am trying to keep it under control with all the Protein and Water. I have lost about 25 pounds. I am impatient.

I have a step son in Iraq in the Army and a cousin as well.

I am a wee bit older than you - 53.

I live in Lee's Summit! I was banded on July 4th in Mexico. I am 44, married, have 2 kids, and my sister is getting Lt. Colonel (sp?) this year. I have 60 pounds to lose. I have lost 10 so far. I own my own business. I have been fighting with an eating disorder since my early teens was even skinny for many years and then I found the love of food.

My son is 12 and my daughter is 17. I have known my husband since he was my sister's first love. I ran into him 10 years later with my sister and she kinda set us up. I live in the downtown part of Lee's Summit which is fabulous! How far is Lansing?

I'm looking to start a support group in this area and was wondering how many people would be interested in joining. I didn't really want anything formal, just a get together with people that have had the surgery, going to have it, or are thinking about it.

I don't know of anyone close to where I live that has had it so, I figured that there has to be more people like me that are looking for support. Right now I'm looking into places to have a meeting. If anyone is interested, feel free to send me an email with what days are good for you and we'll see if we can come to a concensus on a date and time. My email address is ALionberge@aol.com.

I think we have about enough for a party! I think we need to keep track of each other.

I had my first fill today - kind of interesting. It feels a bit tight. I am on liquids now for 24 hours. They put in 3cc which I think is quite a bit but an usual amount for the first one. I sure won't be eating much with this fill. Talk about sipping!

I also want to have a clothing exchange at the meetings. I have a lot of clothes that I'm sure someone could get some use out of. So, if you have clothes that are too big for you, start cleaning out the closets now!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
