5 days post op.. and lots of pain

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I got banded on the 26th. I also had a lengthy hernia repair done at the same time (I was in surgery over 4 hours)

Right now I am having "waves" of pain. They seem to start right under my breasts, and move upwards and outwards. I can't even breathe during these pains. They only last about 15-20 seconds at a time (though it seems like forever  )

I called my surgeon yesterday and told him I had so much gas that I couldn't get rid of. He told me this pain I am feeling is NOT gas, and that it is the band settling down. I am so concerned there is something wrong. Has anyone else had this problem???

I had surgery on the 27th and am experiencing the same thing. You can feel it coming and it's like a burp trying to get out but it just kinda comes up and spreads. I feel mine in my chest and it usually radiates to my shoulder. I think it's very normal and I know it will get better. Hang in there!

I am having these pains today and they are killing me! The day after my surgery wasn't this bad. I held out for hours, but I just took some of my hydrocodone...trouble is, I don't see how that will work if it is indeed GAS. Worse than that, I called my doctor TWICE in two hours and he still has not called me. I am so mad. Let's try to hang in there. ~sigh~

yeah, so the pain meds worked. But, I can't rely on that stuff everyday! But for right now, I'm enjoying being pain free! I think the next time, I will try my liquid tylenol and not the controlled substance. LOL.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
