Who's Getting Banded in August???

Recommended Posts

God august all stars are realy flying now.

thought id share my story. I had the band in on friday, everything went well, wasnt nervous after speaking to the doc onthe thurs. when they woke me up in recovery i couldnt breath - so got a bit of a fright, they said it was the gas. Slept on and of that day. I was very sore, and i wasnt ready to feel that bad. on sat i had a yogurt and some Water, both stayed down, so was went home. Got back to hotel and slept on and off that day as well, again the gas was the worst - felt my chest and stomack where expanded - this hurt and my port site was bad. Sunday had consipation - sore, still had gas but feeling more mobile. I Went home sunday evening, was sooo happy to be home which i think helps u get ur head together better. Im back in work today, no sick pay and no hols left to take. Im feeling very normal today. Sorry for my not so nice story but on the other hand im fine now and even when i felt crap i didnt regret getting it done. and some of the people i was in with where fine. Its just pot luck realy, but if ur feeling bad after it just remember it gets better.

Hi All,

I was banded Monday August 4th. Everything went well, seems i had a hernia, the doctor said about 50% of his patients have one and almost half dont have signs of a hernia, such as myself.

I slept ok although I slept on my back all night and had my head proped up with a pillow, and woke up with a stiff neck .

The pain from the wound area has gotten better each day. It only bothers me when getting up from a sitting or lying down. I not sure if the pain is from the wounds or from the hernia repair or both.

I don't have any problems drinking liquids. They instucted us for the first ten day to drink liquids no thicker milk consistency.

I hope this helps for those not banded yet, let me know if you have any questions

Take care,

LindaGail

Thank you Keisha, my bedroom is upstairs and I wanted to make sure I would be able to make it up there for the comfort. I have a reconstructed right hip (major car accident a few years ago), so I am good at going slow. I really appreciated your response.

Good Luck everyone getting banded today ! I still have two days until the big day for me.

legdxdlr,

You can do this!! You are a few years younger than me but we have the same amount to lose. I am 38 years old and I have had anxiety and depression over my wieght. I have asked myself a million times in the last 6 months - how did I get to this point. Alls I know is I don't want to be at this point anymore. So I am mvoing on with this next phase in my life. I want to live the next 38 years without the weight. I want to consume my time with something else then my weight. I get banded on Monday. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. I have felt like you many of times - you can do this and change your life and outlook forever. Take Care - these are difficult times and exciting times.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
