SIX MONTHS BANDED AND ONLY 20lbs LOST

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have never posted on here before but I think it is time. I was banded on Dec. 28, 2007 and the morning of surgery I weighted 305lbs....Now today is June 30th and I weigh 285. That is ONLY 3.33 pounds a month. Please somebody tell me they have lost this slowly before and it will get better....I am so discouraged that I feel like I have done this for nothing.

Any words of encouragement would help so much!

Well, firstly, its weight gone, and its stayed off so congratulations for that.

What do you eat? And what exercise do you do?

If you're still having trouble controlling what and how much you eat, do you need more fill? It really does become much easier with good restriction. You've no doubt been given dietary guidelines, but if not, there's any number of ways to skin a cat. Round here, most people do a highish protein/lower carb type diet, in australia, we're told to eat from all food groups, according to the food pyramid, so personally, I eat plenty of wholegrain carbs. You just need to settle on a healthy, moderate, lowish calorie diet.

And you really probably need about 40 minutes of cardio (walking, elliptical, bike, swimming, running) about four or five times a week at the very minimum, and if you can add some strength training on top of that, so much the better.

It really does take quite a bit of exercise and work for most people to keep the pounds coming off at a good rate. But we ALL need our fills to make it happen.

My first port of call would be your doc if you feel your restriction is not optimum.

Good luck!

Hi Kim,

I'm 8 months out and have only lost 30 pounds. I feel your frustration. I think for me I thought the weight would just melt off, which is hardly the case. My weakness is lack of exercise. I hate it, but I know that if I'm to be successful I need to get my butt moving.

Just know your not alone!

Hi, no you're absolutely not alone. I know what my problem is though - alcohol. I still like a couple of glasses of wine a night and on the days when I go a few nights without alcohol then the weight comes off so I'm under no illusions. however, reading everyone's stories does help. For instance, I'm often really hungry - no less so than I used to be. So when I go and see the doc next week I will ask for a fill. I was banded in Oct 07 and have lost 16kg so far. Started at 130kg now 114kg. +

A friend of mine who is bone thin now and weighed 250 when she got the band said that she didn't start losing weight or her appetite for 6 months and then one day it just started working. She is down 125 lbs now and looks like a model. I think it will work if you hang in there like everyone else says. I am losing very slowly also.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
