insurance question please help!!!

Recommended Posts

hey everyone im getting my surgery done at staten island university hospital in staten island, new york city. i've been through the whole pre op testing to make sure i can withstand surgery. now im waiting on insurance approval. im hearing from some different people that it took up to 8 months for approval! i dont want to wait that long. i really thought insurance would only take maybe 3 weeks tops.

did anyone wait less than that? does anyone have the Empire Plan (NOT blue shield blue croos) insurance who has gotten the surgery? how long did you wait for approval? someone please help my pre op testing took 7 months- i really dont want to wait anymore!!!!

all answer are appreciated-thanks!!!:confused2:

Sirvine, when you hear the 6 or 7 months, they are referring to the time it took to meet all the requirements (particularly the 6 month diet). Though I am not familiar with your insurance, most insurance companies will make a decision in a month or less. Some are as fast as a few days once all the requirements have been met and submitted.

Asking a question doesn't make you sound stupid! Ask away. This site is a great place to learn all about the lapband and what to expect. I am new here too...having joined just this month and I have learned so much already. Good luck in your journey and be sure to post when you get your approval!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
