Anyone here go to the seminar for Dr. Pitt/Peters in Columbia 6/26?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been banded by Dr. Pitt since July 16,2oo8 and have lost 6o lbs. I think he is great. Really haven't gone but to two suport group seccesions but they were great. It is a 70 mile drive one way and not feasable unless I can do other things to make the trip more cost saving. I've had two fills and feel I;m doing great.

Linda...July 16, 2008 and you have had two fills??? Amazing considering today is just the 7th! lol Did you mean 2007? :tt2:I was also banded by Dr Pitt. I like him a lot. I got a realize band and had my 1st fill on the 1st. He is willing and I need it, to do the second fill next week if I can get down there. The first fill did't give me any restriction so I really need another one. I also can't get to the support groups because I live 2 1/2 hrs away. But the one I went to was really great.

Just curious if any of the people at the seminar where posters on this board??

BTW, I really liked Dr. Pitt and his staff. :)

Hi midwestchickie, I was banded by Dr Pitt on June 2nd. I really like him and his staff. Just curious tho, since you are from KC, wouldn't there be surgeons closer to where you live? Have you been banded yet? The hosp, Boone County is great. They were so nice. I stayed overnight because I had no one to drive me home afterwards and it was a long drive! Even the next day I had to stop 3 times to get out and walk around because I was still very tired. Doing great now tho. Good luck if you are still waiting to be banded. He has a great staff and program. I think you will like it.

strike,

Yes, there are lots of docs closer, but there were several reasons I picked Columbia.

First, I'm self pay, so it is the cheapest (yet still great) doctor I could find. The places I checked in KC were $17,000 and up.

Secondly, I'm on the east side of town, only takes me 1.5 hours, so not bad.

Thirdly, I went to school in Columbia so it's not like I'm going to a *strange* new town.

Then I read good things online about their program, so I decided I wanted to go there!

I'm sure I could have found someone closer at a more affordable self pay price, but it's all good. I researched a little, and couldn't find anything.

I went to the support gorup mtg last Thursday, I really like everyone I have met on staff.

Speaking of school, I just read that you are from Trenton. That name has always been stuck in my head b/c the first year I went MU, I took Spanish and there was a boy in my class who I studied with and I had a huge crush on him, but he had a girlfriend *back home* in Trenton! Poor me! I can't for the life of me remember his name and I think I ended up taking like 10 hours of Spanish with him.

Did you meet Tina, Dr Pitt's nurse? She gave me my last fill. Seems real helpful and knows her stuff. When are you getting banded? Or are you still waiting for insurance approval. I was self pay. My insurance doesn't cover this (actually my employer doesn't cover it) so I had to cough up the moolah for this. But I am glad I did and you will be too!:cursing:

So did you learn any Spanish?:cursing:

Hi strike!

I just popped on here b/c Sylvia just called me with my appt times! Hooray! I'm so excited. I should have my psych eval, nutrition, and pt on Aug. 7 and then see Dr. Pitt on Aug 26. She said my surgery could be as soon as the week of Sept. 8.

I'm self pay too, I'm insurance doesn't cover it no matter the situation.

Hard to believe this is all happening!

Hi Chickie! You will like Sylvia. She's been sooo helpful to me. How exciting that it will happen so soon! Did they tell you about the Realize Band? Thats the newest version that he is using now. He can do either the Lap Band or Realize band and will tell you the pros & cons of each. Realize is what I have and what Cathychatts has and a few others in here too, I think.

Hey, too bad you wont be there on the 31st...thats when I go back for a fill. We coulda done lunch!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
