I went to the gym last night, I did 1 hour on the tredmill which for me is about 2.5 miles. It was the most I've done since surgery. I thought all my wounds had healed. I haven't been wearing a bandage over my port for a few days now and everything was fine. I came home and felt pulling at the port site. I inspected it and noticed some yellow discharge and a slight opening in two places ( I pressed on it,the skin moved apart and I saw pink). I'm thinking I might have overdone it at the gym last night and caused my wound to open up again. I washed it very well and put a bandage over it. I've got an appointment with my doctor for Wednesday, do you think I'll be ok till then? Has this happened to anyone else?

I would say call the Dr.'s office, explain, and find out if they want to see you sooner or not. They would be a better judge of whether you are going to be ok than we would. A quick phone call should let you know whether to worry and how to handle it!!

Good Luck!

Kat

I trust that you have already made the phone call. The last thing you need is an infection.

While your waiting on what the doctor says, you should definitely follow your instructions for wound care that you got post surgery. The site needs cleaned and bandaged.

Yes, this has happened to me too (though not due to excercise, it just happened on it's own, probably from a weird movement I made or something).

When I saw the yellow stuff I started freaking out a little (okay, a lot!) so I went back to my doctor and had him look at it. He said it was fine and pretty normal. So long as there was no pain, swelling, redness, smell, etc that it was fine. He cleaned it up, taped some fresh gauze over it and said to keep it clean and change the guaze as needed, but otherwise not mess with it.

Let us know how it went when you saw him. Hope everything thurned out to be okay for you too!

They told me too keep it clean and keep a bandage over it until I came in to see him. But if it hurt or had other changes to come it early. By the time I went in on Wednesday it had healed up again. I got my first on time. 3 cc's in a 10 cc band! All is well. Thanks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
