Hi I was banded on 9/11/07 and I have had a lot of set backs due to surgery of removing my gallbladder and being diagnosed with NASH a liver disease. All of which is related to my weight. My starting weight was 236 at the time of surgery I lost 16 lbs after surgery but then the weight krept back. i am finally at a place where i am serious about losing weight for good. i have a 10cc vanguard band and right now i have a 8.2cc fill in it. I am so excited because i have lost 5lbs since my fill 3 days ago. Giving up food has been really hard. it was my best friend my whole life. My way of coping with everything. There are times when i wish i could eat a big hamburger and fries but i know that feeling will pass. I am looking forward to losing more and hopefully getting my health back on track. Thanks for reading!

Welcome! I would suggest that you head over to the mental health section and post a thread about how you are coping with food. And congratulations on that 5lb loss. You are on your way!!

hey anew. I am from texas as well. We are close to the same age. My surgery weight was 242. We seem to have some things in common, and our screenames mean the same thing. Kinda cool I thought. You know, I still want a hamburger and fries. For me, it's not about not being able to have things. When our family eats hamburgers I fix the hamburger just without the bun, then I eat very slowly, and I have been known to eat 1 or 2 fries. It is not about doing without completely, just modifying what has been routine for so long. Best wishes to you!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
